In terms of how he treated his players like they were kids and almost got his ass kicked a few times he is comparable to Meyer. Just no off the field foolishness.

The shine of his resume at Alabama polishes up his time as Dolphins coach to a degree.

People are saying Meyer and completely giving Saban a pass because of recency bias.

They are being lazy and having record carry a lot of weight. I mean Meyer couldn’t even finish his season and they finished as the worst team in the league. Saban made it 2 full seasons was a couple games below 500 and left on his own I believe? They both may have been assholes, but one was an asshole who was also terrible at his job.

Obviously Meyer was much worse than Saban and a manchild.

I think if you're going to have a list such as this ten isn't enough to drive home the point. Need a top 20.

There are some names that deserve to be mentioned. Greg Schiano? There are different levels of bad hires. Obviously the worst will be someone who can't even finish one lone season. But there are others who coached a few seasons and gradually worked their way into all time infamy through their behavior as well as their win/loss record.

granted he thought he was getting a mike vick team, but still that was pretty crappy.

Seifert was competitive even during his 1-15 season like 7 games or something was decided by 6 pts or less. Our offense in 1999 was one of the best we have ever had. 

Reich wasn’t a great hire, but was at the mercy of Bryce last year. Chances are with Andy, Reich was 3-8 or 4-7 not 1-10. 
 

Rhule’s first season helped him off the list. We weren’t as bad as we are now that year and a lost a few close games. Whatever he was building, plummeted in 2021.

There is no way Hackett should be ahead of Hue Jackson.  The dude went 1-31 over 2 season span.  That may never be surpassed.

Rhule was clearly going to be a bad hire from the start, but at least taking a shot on a college coach can be explained. Handing complete friggin' control of an NFL franchise to a mid-tier college coach with zero success against real college competition and basically zero NFL experience is where Tepper went full dumbass, and that's a bit outside the scope of just 'bad coaching hire'.

Reich was a similarly bad hire of course and was not going to achieve anything in Carolina, so this is not an excuse for Tepper going full dumbass again, but the cupboard was pretty bare and contributed to him  looking even worse than the below-average coach he already was. Layer Tepper meddling and coaches acting like spies into the mix and you have another scenario that extends beyond 'bad coaching hire'.

I will say at this point anyone hiring a college coach with any level of success(high or low) as a new NFL HC that has no real experience playing or coaching in the NFL.....is just lightspeed retarded. That is the case 100/100 times. Now, everyone gets lucky on occasion but that it's still unbelievably stupid and almost akin to buying expired scratch off lottery tickets in an attempt to hit it rich.
