Would you take a chance on Cam Ward?

QB's are a total coin flip. Ward can be a mega bust. He could also be another Josh Allen. We don't know. Nobody knows. Same with Josh Allen in his draft. Zero NFL teams can accurately evaluate college QB's. Maybe only the Packers, or maybe they got lucky with Rodgers and Love.

Do I think we are in position to flip the coin again with this roster? Nope. But I also can't be mad at Dan for flipping it. A franchise QB cures a lot of ills. Almost every NFL team would trade their entire defense for Mahomes. As good as TJ Watt and the Steelers unit is, they would trade every single starter for Mahomes if offered. Same with the 49ers even though they have Purdy.

Morgan will get fired if he doesn't find Tepper a franchise QB within the next year or so anyway. He knows that.

Ideal scenario for me....we get the #1 pick and trade back with the Raiders to get #8 or so and take Cam there.  We should also get a 2nd and 3rd for 2025 and their 1st round pick in 2026.  Draft defense for the rest of 2025 draft and use the 2026 1st rounder to draft BPA.

One problem Cam won't be available at #8. He's going to be the 2nd QB off the board. Raiders want Sanders tho, that I agree with.

No, trading 5 premium players for an all-time bust has landed us where we are today.

That and just generally poor drafting.

Yeah taking Cam Ward top 5 isn't over drafting lol. Theres not even a clear cut top 5 edge rusher which would/should be the only other consideration

Nope wrong again.  Just give up man you don’t know what you are talking about

I lived in Colorado during Allen's college career at Wyoming so pretty much every Wyoming game was televised for me and I'm telling you, I've never seen anyine who has improved so dramatically as a passer. You could see the athleticism in college. You could see the cannon arm. But the accuracy was just dreadful. I mean, WILDLY inaccurate. I honestly didn't think it was possible for someone to improve as much as a passer as Allen did. In terms of actual play and not just judging traits, Ward is in a completely different universe as a college QB than Josh Allen was.

    • Miller being less raw and more pro ready makes sense of why they picked him. With us having a capable starter in Walker the lower floor higher ceiling player makes sense for us as well. I agree with that.
    • I'm from Michigan and have had this discussion with my Lions friends, and they all agree with me, they were never going to take Freeling over Miller.  As, yes, you are correct, they could have left Sewell at RT and taken Freeling, but they are in a SB contention window right now. An OL with Freeling at LT and Sewell at RT is not as strong as Sewell at LT and Miller at RT would be for this upcoming season and likely at least next year as well. 5 years it could be looked back upon as a long term "mistake" to take Miller over Freeling, but for a franchise like the Lions, you can't worry about the long term when you have current SB aspirations.  It's all about maximizing their current SB window over the next 1-3 years. And it's not about style, it's about day 1 readiness, and a lot of "experts" aren't even sure if Freeling is ready to play Week 1 yet at the position he's used to, let alone switching to a side he hasn't played before, but a career starting RT is going to be more than ready to fill that role for them Week 1. I'm 100% convinced that if our draft positioning was swapped, we'd have still taken Freeling, they'd have still taken Miller, and both teams would have got the OT that they preferred due to what each team needs right now and what their current realistic aspirations are for the 2026 season. We're in a position where we can let our drafted OT sit and learn for a bit, they needed a week 1 starter, for me that's where this discussion becomes very easy to understand why each team took the player they did.
