Exactly. Being 4 years but only that guaranteed, I bet there’s a clear out after year 2 or 3 with the guaranteed dropping off significantly.

In addition, we’ll be saving a few mil after cutting Miles Sanders this offseason (5.5 cap space, 2.9 dead) so the RB room will just be Chuba, Brooks, and probably a 2025 rookie.

Considering the growing cap, not a bad deal, not a pricey RB room. James Conner/Montgomery territory.

This is one of those signings that the fan base will generally love. A lunch pale guy who performed better than expected. RBs are a dime a dozen and not as important anymore to making the playoffs and winning the SB. I'd rather just cycle through young RBs who are hungry and have a lot to prove. But on the other hand you can't knock what Chubba has done here.

We are essentially taking the money we are paying Sanders and moving it over to Chuba's bank account for the next few years. He's earned it. It's not a record breaking contract like with CMC that can hamstring us if he starts sucking.

Chuba is the kind of football player you hold on to, Even if he's a running back. He's worked his ass off and earned a paycheck. He's a leader through work ethic and perseverance.

It's pretty obvious we are trying to replicate what the lions have done with Monty and Gibbs. Hopefully Brooks ends up being like Gibbs.

Has Wonnum even played a down yet? A healthy Wonnum type might be worth that money and a step up from what the Panthers have been putting on the field.

If you look at teams that do it right, you build the OL. Most average RBs look above average behind top OLs. 

You build and invest in the OL. Good teams only pay/invest high assets into the RB position when they have the luxury to do so. 

You definitely don't do it in the early stages of the rebuild due to the NFL life expectancy of a RB. You won't have a young brooks let alone a young chuba once we are out of the rebuild.

Running backs are exceedingly cheap relative to their production. This is a steal, a receiver with his production would cost at least twice this.

We sure do like to pay our running backs! It has rarely worked out, except for a few of J-Stews second contract years. At least its only basically a two year deal if they want to dump him.

Now we will have spent a 2nd rounder that comes in 3rd down and certain packages. Would have been a lot nicer if we spent a 2nd on a defensive lineman instead of someone that will get 12-15 snaps a game.

You do when you’re trying to establish a culture. When you tell the media that you wanna a team full of dogs, you have to pay those dogs for their work hard

This is what happens when "old school football people" make decisions. 

There is little to no concept of positional value with this front office in regard to drafting or free agents.

Does this mean that this front office is guaranteed to fail?  No, but their margin of error is a lot smaller.  They better get lucky in drafting.

Anyone who thinks this team is heavily analytical driving clearly doesn't understand analytics.

Good signing. This is a very reasonable number and he’s still young enough to still be productive in four years. Very happy about this.

If it all goes like they want, you have Chuba finishing the contract and Brooks finishing his the same year. 

The obvious move then or maybe in '26 would be to repeat this scenario with a top college RB drafted and Brooks taking the Hubbard role when/if Hubbard is put to pasture. I think they are trying to longer term plan the roster/contracts out.

And for people whining about Brooks, you need two good RBs when you don’t have any decent QBs. By the time we need to pay Brooks (if he proves worth it) Chuba will be on his last year and we can draft a guy to be Brooks’ #2. Smart strategy.
