Would you trade Ickey

Bryce sucked flat out today. Bad decisions on throws. He owns a large stake in this loss…. BUT… a common theme, Bryce’s worst games come when a blue chip speed rusher lines up opposite to Ickey.

Serious question. would this team benefit from trading Ickey? Do they give him one more year? If his ability to handle a speed rusher would have come around, it would have been seen by now.

This team will get abused in the playoffs if they have to constantly scheme around his shortcomings.

Trade and Get a 2nd or 3rd for Ickey before they make a mistake and back themselves in to having to shell out big $$ to a one trick pony with questionable dog in him. If a franchise LT is there in the draft. Pick him. Cut bait.

I'd trade him for 2 dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts and a 2nd round pick right now. He is easily replaced.

Some team will make Ekwonu into a Pro Bowl OG. We were just foolish enough to draft him high and force him to play LT.

1000%

Classical panthers move. Draft a guy in the early first round who has a significant flaw that they feel they can coach up. They are never able to and then find themselves at the crossroads of overpay or let em walk for nothing.

So many other consistent issues to worry about.  I’m an NC State grad and would love to say Ickey is great but even as an NC State grad (some of u Carolina guys are thinking  it) I have the smarts to  realize he is not the great LT we want him to be.

But he’s not the worst and has played ant a level this season where we don’t mention his name too often. I can’t see the FO spending man hours scheming a strategy to trade Ickey. If something stupid crazy falls out of the sky then fine but no way is this team in a position to shop a young average to sometimes above average starting LT.

Just my.02

like I have said before I would much rather us start Brady Christensen at LT.  BC was a really good LT while in college at BYU & also has played  LT numerous times since joining the Panthers & each time done a decent job

however Ickey does in fact have a higher ceiling than Brady Christensen but the only problem with that is that Ickey is in fact not developing into the LT the Panthers envisioned he would become when they first drafted him several years ago

so yeah the answer might not be the long term answer at LT but I also at the same time think that there is for sure a better option at LT already on the roster

...just saying

Is there a place to bet on how fast after he was traded, that he plays a solid game for someone and the board is flooded with how we trade away all our good players?  If so, then yes.  Trade him.

Oh he would absolutely flourish. It’s the panthers way. It’s no different with coaches. Sometimes they reach their expiration date, go somewhere else, and find new success.

Similarly to Burns, how long to wait for the light to finally turn on?

Market forces will demand a salary that the panthers can not responsibly match. Sliding him to guard will fit his skill set better, but he has played LT for 3 years. He will receive offers from other teams wanting to pay him LT money.

At guard, he won’t start with what they have paid Hunt and Lewis. Center then?? Dunno. Maybe? He will become a backup by default once they draft their stud LT. I doubt Dan just stands pat. That’s not his MO.

So where does this put him? Can you match what other teams will offer for a backup LT/guard? Do you dish out franchise LT $ on a guy who still needs significant improvement in pass protection. This team will be DOA in the playoffs with the very first team who has a formidable speed rusher. What if he has hit his ceiling in pass protection already and they sign him long term? It’s a big gamble either way.

    • I mean I just don't understand the argument. Baker and Sam both have been pro bowl QBs post their time here. And you just said yourself that is due to him having a damn good roster around him and they are well coached. You're even saying the bad baker is still there somewhere, but he is in a good organization with good roster and coaching that they are getting the best out of him. Why does Baker and Sam get all that benefit of the doubt but when it comes to Bryce it must be a BY9 problem, not an org or team problem?  Hell I got a guy below you arguing with me that Chark/Hurst/Mingo sucked because Bryce wouldn't throw them open. It's ridiculous how far the stretch goes.
    • Correct.  It’s really hard to get open in the NFL when opposing defenses gameplan and cheat coverage/routes on all your players because they know your QB can’t make certain throws/plays.   magically no one that comes to Carolina can get open or make plays with the ball in their hands…..it’s like there is one singular common dominator to it all.  BY makes playing defense way too easy.   NFL players are too good to allow one side to cheat coverage and not respect all the potential threats of a route  so you can dial up a great play.  But if corners and safeties just cheat coverage and know X and Y happening on route/threats….getting open gets hard when they just play it one way.  Getting open has a lot to do with the different threats a WR can pose on a given play.
    • Kinda depends how you look at it both were 3rd round draft pics.  Nico was nothing before stroud and tank came in with stroud.  If both were on the panthers would young have them doing well and starting or would their stats be low.  I really dont know the answer to that.  None of the panthers wrs have left and did well either but personally i feel neither of nico or tank would do much on the panthers.
