Losing isn’t tanking, why is that such a hard concept for people to understand?

Tanking is losing on purpose, which no team will ever try to do.  But losing is better for the franchise.

As a player/coach you want to win, as a fan, you should want what is best for the team, which is losing.

Your joy of this win will be gone within a few days, it’s not going to make next season (or future seasons) any better when we’re drafting later because of this pointless win.

The good news most mocks have dropped Tmac out of the top 5. You might still get your guy at #8.

Winning builds culture. At least if you have the right leadership in place. Not sure we do, but we aren’t going to improve long term and start to consistently win if we don’t start winning some. That winning culture doesn’t just turn on like a light switch. It has to be built over time and winning these sorts of games helps do that. 
 

And given teams make bad draft selections all the time, the difference between pick 5 and 7 isn’t great. You still have to make the right pick wherever you’re drafting. And then you have to have the winning culture and infrastructure to develop that pick into a successful one. 

At that part of the draft, every pick you fall can be a MASSIVE difference maker.

In 2021, picking 7th instead of 6th cost us Justin Herbert

In 2022, picking 8th instead of 7th cost us Penei Sewell

When winning meaningless games causes you to fall from say the 12th pick to the 15th, it’s not as big of a deal.  But when a meaningless win could drop you from 4th to 7th, then it could cost you significantly.

There’s no guarantee we would have taken those players, even though we as fans wanted them. 
 

And there’s not guarantee the coaching staff we had at the time would have allowed/turned those players into the players they are today.

There is a 100% chance we’d have taken both of those guys had we been one pick earlier, we had no QB or LT in those seasons.

Momentum from winning one game this late in a lost season doesn’t carry over.  You need to close out with like 4-5 wins out of 5-6 games for that type of thing to carry over.

All this win did was hurt our draft position, nothing else

what, we literally were trying to move up for Herbert, and he went right before us. Hurney knew Herbert was the guy.

      Great season regardless of what happens. From starting out 4-14 to ending 44-38 is incredible progress and future is bright from here. I do think we can beat the Heat and then win on the road against either Orlando or Philly assuming Embiid doesn’t miraculously return sooner. But if not, a higher draft pick is nice too

Carolina Receives: DT  Dexter Lawrence II New York Receives: 2026 2nd Round Pick (No. 51 Overall): A premium Day 2 selection that fits the for  Lawrence  after his 0.5-sack season in 2025.       Moved to Tuesday, not Wednes because of scheduling with Flyers game or something in Philly. But I don't feel good about the Heat.  It has been a great season regardless.  Team just been playing so hard to move up since a bad start and just picked a bad time to get gassed.  It's like almost everyone is shooting cold at the same time even wide open shots.   Maybe atmosphere and playoffs kick off a spark.  I'd rather be in a series than a one and done though. The team has a good foundation to build on regardless of what happens.
