Early NFL offseason chatter

From what I read the offense in year two was extremely predictable and stale, even the players, including Stroud, were complaining about it. He also apparently insisted on the C to do the line calls instead of Stroud. So it looked good on the surface to everyone on the outside, but inside the building a lot of people were unhappy.

That’s the impression I got from what I read about the Texans too. From the outside things looked ok, but it was a different atmosphere inside the building. Ultimately it’s usually only a matter of time once your QB starts to turn on a member of the coaching staff.

Slowik will get another opportunity and the Texans need to get the right replacement. It will be interesting to see if a new OC gets Stroud to bounce back to stats nearer his rookie season, or whether he’ll continue to be around the numbers of his second season.

Interesting choice by the Cowboys. I don’t recall Schottenheimer getting any other interviews around the league in recent seasons. After who they got linked with, I suspect it will be difficult for their fans to get excited by this hire.

This is a worse hire than Prime. Cowboys are doomed until Jerry is gone. They have talent but the coaching hires are so uninspiring.

This one can't actually be blamed on Jerry.

From what I've read, Jerry was giving serious consideration to hiring Deion. His son Stephen though, who for the record has generally been shown to be far more football smart than his dad, pushed back against Deion and suggested hiring Schottenheimer instead.

I agree with not taking on Sanders and the circus that would have come with him, but I'm not so sure Schottenheimer is going to be a great hire either.

As for Lady Cowboy Fan, she's very "men" on this choice, but she is happy it's not Deion.

Can’t remember where i saw it, but Matt Eberflus was mentioned as DC for Dallas. Not sure how true it is.

Just more of the same with this guy, if the team stays healthy they will be in the playoffs but go home early as usual.

Seems like they have the talent to attract some of the highly sought after coaches if it wasn't for Jerry.

    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
