Luvu / Chinn….. why did we let them go again?

Was it cost or was it scheme because both of those fellas were straight up beasting for the Redskins yesterday

Luvu wanted to leave and was not going to stay no matter what. Can't blame him.

No one in Carolina could figure out how to properly use Chinn and he sure wasn't a fit for Evero's cloud-soft whatever it is. Chinn had options from other teams and ultimately chose Washington due to scheme fit - the attacking style is working out well for him. I'm still not convinced his best fit isn't as a WLB/SUBLB but Washington seems to have him as close to his rookie performance as anyone thus far.

Luvu may have been a cost issue. He signed a 3 year/$31M contract but Chinn is on a 1 year/$4.1M deal.

I honestly don't buy the "fit" arguments. Good coaches find ways to use good players. Tailor your "system" to fit your players. Any semi-competent coach looks good if he has all the right pieces.

No real disagreement, but it's fair to say that some players just aren't built for certain assignments. That can certainly be a condemnation of the coach.

I agree to a point, but certain schemes in theory and on the field play to a player's strengths and makes him look good. That's what the draft and FA acquisitions are all about. Of course some players can thrive in any scheme, but I can't say that Chinn is one of them.

Luvu had the open market he wanted to test, and honestly, it seemed like he was preferential to elsewhere even if the money was similar. 

Chinn was the 2020 runner-up DROY.  His type of talent doesn't just not fit but I guess the 2 high shell isn't optimal - we just couldn't use him the way Snow did.  He's a fit with the now more hybrid-Cover 3 defense Quinn deploys.

Chinn looked like a future cornerstone player for us during his rookie year. Man, did we fug that up

I also think Luvu would have stayed if we weren't an absolute shitshow of an organization. His presence was sorely missed this year.

Luvu didn't want to be here in this scheme and Evero didn't know how to use Chinn in his scheme.  Evero doesn't adjust his scheme based on personnel at all.

I would have paid that in a heart beat for Luvu.

I do.

That said, there are plenty of coaches who talk about tailoring their scheme to fit their players (hell, even Rivera said that) but when push comes to shove they're either too stubborn to actually try or just plain don't know how.

Evero could be one of those.
