Reason for Liking or Disliking Prospect X at 8 Overall

Give your reasons for why the Carolina Panthers should or shouldn't select prospect _____________ at 8 overall. 

Sell me on the prospect and fit. Regardless of who you think we will select or who will actually be available come draft day.

I am honestly locked in on Mason Graham. Pairing him him with Derrick Brown... 

6'3 1/2

~296lbs

32" arms

9 1/8" hands

I do fully understand the size concerns with him, but his short-area burst and lateral quickness, high-motor, active/accurate hands, footwork, and play recognition  will very much help him succeed at the next level. He will definitely need to work on his bull rush and honestly his pass rush skills in general do need to develop as well, but Graham would immediatly step in and upgrade our run-defense.

That's sound logic! I think we could make a case for a few players. I know its not popular  with a few but Warren gives to the  identity we want. Tremble is mostly a blocker. Sanders flashed late but mostly a receiving  threat at the moment. Warren is an automatic 1st down, run blocks, runs the ball and can even line up and throw it. To me he is if you took the Taysom Hill and actually could play tight end too. I just think looking at Goedert, Kelce,  Laporta, Hoeckenson, Baltimore Tight ends, Knox and Kindcaid and etc... all the  last few teams had stellar Tight end play. Warren allows you to be unpredictable  on offense bc he is equally good at being a target, as he is a blocker. Don't want to run Bryce on a qb sneak, plug Warren in with the threat to pass. I would be happy with him, Walker or a few others. As long as the player isn't riding the bench year 1.

 Very few teams (including the panthers) don't need more talent on the D line.  If he's there you grab him for now, for the future, and it elevates all other positions when you have a talent like that.  LBs can move, DBs need to be in coverage less time, higher pressure for mistakes on the opposing offenses QB and line.  The value and ceiling is too high to miss.

I don't want Shemar Stewart because his measurables scream potential #1 overall draft pick while his production screams UDFA. He's honestly a guy who should be mid-late round boom/bust pure athletic potential type of pick, not a potential top 10 pick.

I'd like Jalen Walker because I just think he's a football player. Turn on a UGA game and see which guy just jumps off the screen on defense. It's him.

Would not be mad about T-Mac or Warren.

He's normal to  big for a 3/4 DE

Yeah, I was thinking he's the type of guy who would be an end in odd fronts and move inside in even fronts like Aaron Donald. Not saying he's Aaron Donald, just saying a similar usage in terms of alignment.

In very very simple terms

Good deep defense draft, weak offense overall minus RB and TE.

8th use it on Tmac who should get better if he chooses to. Panthers need a legit pass catching weapon. The odds of that being at 57 or later are very silm. Where as you theres like a 30% chance of finding a defense starter. I like 30 > 2%.

Panthers.....well if they had good scouts..... should be able to draft defense starters into the 4th round. The odds for offense fall off a clip around the top 20 picks for offense starters. (minus rb and te).

Everyone wins, BY has another young WR to grow with and defense gets its much needed talent and depth.

Tyler Warren- Position value

Jalon Walker- Statistically unremarkable and small for a 3-4 OLB. Which is what his position will be. 
 

Mykel Williams- Statistically unremarkable. Limited bend and no win now step. 

Shemar Stewart- Athletic DJ Johnson. Has 0 moves, 0 plan. 
 

Mike Green- Character flags

James Pearce- Character flags, soft

TMac- One note player, didn’t play vs the best. Did a lot as a jumbo slot. 

Ashton Jeanty- Position value

Will Johnson- Lacks explosion, effects recovery

Jahdae Barron- Short arms

Yep this year sucks for having the 8th.

I hate to bring this up, but the bears pick 39th(panthers pick).... that pick feels within 5% of who ever is drafted at 8.

      We won't know the answer to this for a long time. Reality is, Caleb has been the consensus #1 in that draft for years. Bryce was a similar situation, but mostly the same. He was not the clear and obvious #1 that Caleb was, but most teams had Bryce at QB1. The Panthers were always going to be terrible Bryce's rookie year.  I don't think DJ Moore's presence would have changed anything about that offense, as our guards, center, and left tackle were getting demolished on nearly every snap. It's clear Caleb's dad was trying to do everything possible to ensure Caleb didn't end up in Chicago with Eberflus. It's hard to imagine that he wouldn't have done the same, but probably more publicly with our situation, considering Carolina is an easier target for the media than Chicago. We can all speculate, but it's impossible to tell who is going to have the better career on May 16, 2025. If either QB doesn't pan out, we have an easy answer. If both flame out, the bears clearly won the trade, but it wouldn't have really mattered anyway. We all know how we win the trade. Candidly, even if one of the other picks we gave up ends up being a hall of fame player, we don't know if the panthers would have taken that player anyway. All you can do is make the best decision you can in the moment with the information you have. I really like Bryce Young, and I'm glad he's a Carolina Panther.  The only way to win in the modern NFL is to have an absolute dude at QB. I personally am happy that our franchise recognizes this, as I remember times when they did not.
