something to feel good about in the offseason..."could be something special brewing in Carolina"

Jimmy really does compliment those big outside WRs pretty well.  Twitchy speedster is something we need on this offense.  I'd love it if he could be used similar to Curtis Samuel.  I know the odds aren't in his favor based on where he was drafted.

I mentioned it pre draft but I'd be open to Curtis coming back if the Bills cut him.   Think that would carry better odds for slot help than Renfrow.

You are going to feel silly when your guy is cooking on Sundays.  He is only a year older than Samuel surprisingly.  Honestly our WR room is pretty jammed tight right now.  XL, TMac, and AT are locks with probably Coker.  The other slots will be for young guys to develop (David Moore is probably gone).  Horn has a chance as a returner and I wish Moose Jr has a better shot at making the team but I doubt it...

I would LOVE for Renfrow to ressurect his career here but I'd be lying if I said I expected it. He's basically four years removed from being an impactful player and was out of the league altogether last year. The way I see it, it's a low risk move for a hometown kid so fug it... let's give it a shot.

Better speed too. I'd love to add another speed guy beyond Jimmy Horn.

Renfrow is a great story, and if he can return to his pre illness form, he could be a legit contributor.

But I'd take Samuel over anyone else for that last WR spot

There in lies the rub. We don’t have a winning culture yet because we haven’t had a winning season since 2017 (8 years away now) and it’s weird how that’s not understood.

I hate to say it, but Fitterer fuged U.S. hard by trying to win with a no talent team and trading away the house.

Last year’s team, QB and HC all showed promise. The problem is that talent wise we are still miles from the top teams. Before people interject with the we played KC and Philly tough, the Matt Rhule and Bridgewater led meh team of 2020 lost to both 1 seed teams by the same one score margin and we had chances to win both of those games. That’s the NFL, bad teams often surprise the top teams. The KC team Rhule almost beat was far better than the 2024 Chiefs.

Anyway, I’m legitimately worried that we are absolutely going to get stuck in that 7-10 to 10-7 range where we can win our crap division but we don’t have the talent to do anything else and we can easily have an bad injury year and our depth gets us an under .500 finish.

Someone mentioned Detroit and until we have some of their drafts, like Gibbs, LaPorta, Branch and Campbell in 2023, we are going to be middle of the road for a while. Let’s hope the 2025 draft class is it.

I am with you but at this point a winning season and 10-7 would double our win total of 2024. I would be glad to get to that point and then contemplate how to get to the next level. The reason we just talk about a winning culture but we don't experience it is because we had peach basket turnover  in players and coaches. This is Canales second year. There is actually thought that this might be the guy, a Pete Carroll clone who might be around long enough to actually build a winning tradition. But you got to talk about it and get buy in and actually win more than you lose. Then when you do it for several years you begin to expect it and do whatever it takes to achieve it.  That then builds a winning culture

The buildup of the Hunter Renfrow hype here is entering kiss of death territory if I'm being realistic.

Lol is anyone seriously hyping him up? I think it’s all for fun for the Clemson fans. We never get Clemson guys on our roster. Let them have their fun.

If Renfrow can put JC horn in a blender like many of the CBs during his 21 season, I will gladly join the hype train.. Until then I got him on the PS working his way back into the NFL and hopefully replacing 35 year old ATs role next season as a 30 year old.

Im glad he's here for this deep WR group, its long over due in this passing league to have around 10 legit level NFL WRs for the team(PS included). Plus I like having young group of WR with a young QB, while AT shows them how to be pros.

And yet people can’t understand why we can’t pull off back to back winnning seasons.  It’s not hard to figure out.   It’s probably the most simple problem I have seen.  Draft Tigers, not Gamecocks.  Science.

*FAs don’t count.  Not science.  We have done that before.  Hopefully this one is better than that last experiment

You look at  a signing like Renfro from  a risk/ benefit point of view. Cost - 100,000 in bonus and guarantees and a salary of 1.1 million if he sticks. Benefit - a former probowler trying to rehab a serious illness which shortened his career who is motivated to play in his old backyard. He is a winner who can help instill that in the young guys at the cost of a roster spot and provides great insurance in case of injury to other guys.

    • okay I found this and it sounds like my hopes for the first surgery being not such a great job seems like it could be actual reality.  I only hoped because that would give a better chance for recovery and ia a possible scenario so I just thought it could be possible. Had no real evidence of it. But I’ll be damned.    This is a detailed report of Brooks’ surgery and the condition of his knee after the failed repair.     https://x.com/jmthrivept/status/2055743129408704806?s= Sparked by some very good questions by @CoachspeakIndex, here’s some info on Jonathon Brooks: 1. Speculation that the first graft/ACLR by Dr. Cooper didn’t “take” or at least was too lax, leading to failure and re-tear. Brooks dealt with issues cutting, progressing in his rehab into the early stages of 2024 and then re-tore it late 2024, requiring a second ACLR in January 2025 (essentially revision). Notably, CAR prolonged Brooks’ rehab process through Sept-Oct due to issues progressing into the next stages of rehab. 2. Second surgery performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who has extensive experience with revisions. He did a double bundle technique, harvesting graft from Brooks’ left patellar tendon and a strip of his right IT Band (his right patellar tendon had been utilized for the prior graft in 2023. The double bundle technique significantly increases rotational stability of the knee, leading to a stronger and more secure graft/reconstruction. Also to note, Brooks’ surgery wasn’t significantly delayed, meaning that the tunnels from his prior ACLR were in good shape and they didn’t need to perform bone grafts to fill in (would have delayed 2nd surgery by 5-6 months). Essentially, reading the tea leaves tells me that everything else except for the graft itself was still in good quality within his knee. Good sign for future.  3. Typically, you see a performance increase anywhere from 16-20 months post-revision. Brooks will be ~21 months out from his second surgery by the time Week 1 hits. His knee should be more stable and stronger this time around, with adequate time for healing and return to all movement patterns. I’m not viewing this situation as a typical “Player __ had TWO ACL tears, he’s cooked” situation. Rather, I’m viewing it as the first procedure failed, but the second procedure is significantly stronger and should allow him to return to form this time around. I don’t know why it posted as a link but there it is.
    • Jackie, any more reps tomorrow, or is that it for this session?  thanks for the work
    • How can you say they aren’t trying to win now with all the moves made in free agency? Or is trading first round picks the only way to be win now? I’d be fine never trading another first round pick again, win now be damned.
