The guy will never be a real off ball inside backer. Undersized 3-4 edge who sometimes rushes from the middle of the defense. Tenacious player, probably going to be a solid pass rusher who gives up some in the run game. I like him, but it’s what he is.

Realistically he's a 4-3 OLB, but I think in a 3-4, he's better off as an ILB who can then shift to OLB in some pass rush situations.

Even had we known them I still suspect T-Mac would've been the lick given Walker's own lingering injury issue.

Maybe, and I'd still have been pushing for T-Mac, but I was very loud about being anti Walker because I hated the fit of him as an OLB in a 3-4 with his size.

Had the discussion been about him being a 3-4 ILB who pass rushes situationally (and realistically, a future OLB when we move back to a 4-3 at some point), I'd have been much more on board with that option.

Sucks for Jewell, but take care of yourself

Wish we could go back in time and grab Germaine Pratt before he went to Vegas. Time to throw poo against the wall and hope it sticks. If we show any promise early in the season, trade for a guy to bolster the group then.

I'm sorry, but this is not a "shocking" release. I half-expected us to cut him back in March after we signed Rozeboom.

I'm a Trevin Wallace fan and think he can be a solid player for us, but he's far from proven. I also have serious doubts about Rozeboom, so I'm not saying ILB isn't a pretty massive need right now, but to act like Jewel being cut is some huge shock is a little weird, IMO. And I didn't even realize he was as hurt as he apparently is.

I expect us to add another veteran before the season, but realistically this is a hole we're just going to have to work around until the offseason.

    • I didn’t necessarily think he was gonna get cut but I did think Rozeboom was viewed as an upgrade/replacement. I suspect the FO was concerned about the lengthy concussion protocol and wanted to mitigate this.
    • I'll add one more thought for you Icege  What could make me change my outlook? Think that will come down to the Panthers showing me something in preseason.  Not wins.  Not stats.  But I have long been a believer preseason can show you things about certain players, the team, etc (dates back to Matt Rhule era) and IMO has applied ever since.    Do they actually rep Bryce Young and not try to hide him this year? I feel that applied the past 2 seasons and drastically hurt him going into both seasons (that's on staff).  The young Cam Newton way was the way.  Take lumps in preseason.  Shake the rust off.  Get used to game speed again.  Not using the start of the actual season for your very young QB to find a groove.   They haven't repped him or rep him less than stud QBs.  I don't think either preseason the team was showing confidence in reality (only word) of what they had going into either of the last 2 seasons.    also, we need our young WRs doing the same.  They need the same reps.  Preseason games don't matter.  But they do.  They are real NFL reps vs people you don't see every day in real game environments.  They need lots of balls.  XL and Saunders combined for 2 catches all last preseason (XL at 0).    I get injury concerns and being overly cautious was part of that.  But those dudes still played.  Feel the staff did a poor job of working up our young guys in those moments leading into the season.  Get them catches.  Get them work.   If BY, XL, Tmac, Saunders are out there all preseason putting in real work going into this season and showing some confidence?   The players on O that will matter are?  I might change my view.  If it's just a bunch of not seeing Bryce, not seeing Tmac, not seeing XL, not seeing Saunders, etc.....and being told but it's totally going to be great week 1? Meh.
    • did they release a practice schedule for training camp? days and times?  can't find one on the site
