I wasn't trying to criticize the grammar at all.  It's the way he worded it.  Sounds like a chore.

I would rather him "love" his job.  I want him to want it.

Have you ever heard him talk?

He is just saying he’s doing whatever it takes…

Did anybody read this article, but was imagining XL's accent as they were reading it? I'm sure whoever wrote this needed google translate.

Google translate can't decipher what X is putting out. It comes back saying, Are you serious?

That is what he is saying he is doing NOW.

Actions speak louder than words.  If he sandbagged it for whatever reason before, that is not a good sign for his "football DNA."  Talk is cheap.

Trust me, I want him to be the best.  He is my wife's favorite player, and after Luke and TD left, we had some dark times where she was so hurt she was claiming she would never care about this team again lol.

Two ALARMING things here ...

"Oh man, it’s always been something I’ve done, and I don’t know why, but I felt like I could take a little breath,' "

1) He had this mentality as a ROOKIE, when you've accomplished NOTHING to take a "breath".

and

2) That he is STUPID enough to admit it.

"Jugs" work to receptions in an NFL game is as "jugs" work in a strip club are to getting a girlfriend.  They both make you feel good, but neither is practical in real life.

Getting to the NFL is a major accomplishment. Being a first round draft pick is only something 32 people get to say once a year. That is a huge accomplishment. He probably was relieved that he made it and that the uncertainty of the draft process was over. He didn’t shift gears quick enough and what happened, happened.

I don’t know that he will ever be a true number one receiver, personally I like him better as a two which is why I wanted Matthew Goldman or whatever his name is but it is what it is.

How is he stupid for admitting it? It honestly seems like growth to me.

So your boss brings you in and asks "what happened this past year?".

And you answer "I took a breather".

That doesn't work in my industry, but kudos to your soft industry and failing company.

That's... a wild jump to a false equivalence.

If my boss called me and asked, "Why do you think you ran into issues with this project?" and I think it's because I took it easy on a routine part of the job that I mistakenly thought I had perfected/mastered, I'm telling the truth and getting better.

Sounds like your industry/company is garbage and full of turnover if they don't let people grow on the job.

It makes sense if you think about it. Hands weren’t really his issue in college. He was pretty raw in his route tree if I remember correctly. So he went all in on addressing his weaknesses vs a fully balanced conditioning. He also appears to have learned from it which is all you can ask.
