That one drive was nice. Everything else was rougher than a South Carolina highway.

Agreed but we already knew this team doesn't have any depth especially defensively the only two above average defnders we have didnt play. Now had the starters looked like complete poo like years past I'd be right there burning the wagons with you.

It's also an expectations thing, I know its been a a long time but fixing an NFL all time worst defense isn't an overnight thing. If Bryce can keep that kind of play up and we can win 7 games thats progress to me.

There were definitely bright spots. Coker, McMillan, and Bryce definitely looked pretty good.
The bad: Andy Dalton looked washed up, Brady Christensen looked like a turnstile. The immaturity from Xavier is concerning. I hope we do not have another Jonathan Mingo.
The ease with which the Browns ran the ball to the outside was apparent. Defense is the biggest concern that I have.

Dalton yeah no excuse for how bad he was...

Christenson I give a bit of a pass he was playing down on the 3rd string with scrubs not a great look but we don't know what assignments were.

The Run D..... I'm completely reserving judgement when it was the starters no Brown, Wharton at nose tackle... setting the edge on outside runs is always more difficult in a 3-4  like to see improvement here though.

If BY9 doesn't get us 17 points in the first two drives, then we might as well trade away all the starters for draft picks and start the tanking!!!!!

Am I doing this right? I've never talked tank before. I usually say play to win and pray for no injuries, but I want to fit in with cool kids who know better.

I just checked all alternate universes and here's the one:

Ist drive, 3rd & 6, BY avoids the sack for an 87 yard TD.

Only 10 on the field for the ensuing KO because Incoom can’t find his helmet. At the last second, Bryce heroically yells “There it is!  Go get ‘em!”  Incoom chases the returner backwards into the endzone for a safety.

2nd drive goes exactly as our universe with Coker’s TD.

Coming off the field, Bryce tells Tet to turn his head quicker.  Tet says “I won’t let it happen again!”  Canales, hearing this, says “Show me!” and sends them on the field for the successful 2 pts and the confirmation that Tet delivers on his word.

At 17-0 from 2 drives, the crowd goes wild but Dan Morgan meets Bryce on the sideline.  “Technically, you weren’t responsible for the 1st drive extra point, so you only got us 16 pts.  We appreciate what you’ve done for us but we’ve decided to go in a different direction.”

The final score is meaningless. Looking inept isn't.

Cam Newton looked like refried horse sh-t in what was, at that time, the "dress rehearsal" game (preseason three) of his rookie season.

Two weeks later, we were all thinking a decade of glory lay ahead of us.

We've looked like refried horse poo in preseason for seven consecutive years and then proceeded to look like refried horse poo in seven consecutive regular seasons and Cam Newton ain't walking through that door to save us.

If you're a good organization that consistently puts a competitive team on the field, I get this mindset. But what we saw last night was just business as usual for the Panthers in the Tepper era. And that's precisely the concern.

Dalton looked like he should retire. Those 3 games or so last year he looked decent might have been it for his career.

So being tapped out for the last 9 months ur saying things havent changed....I'll start bitching after the first game of the season. Preseason means nothing.

What did you see out of guys that are going to play any meaningful downs for this year that has you so concerned??

Serious question

It seems like you are determined to project negativity

Bc I saw a a lot of positives with the guys that will actually be playing on Sundays.

Yeah, there was some bad from the guys that will be updating their resumes in a few weeks, but so what?

Bryce looked like Bama Bryce. Both our top draft picks (T-Mac & Scourton) had splash plays.

Looks like we found a gem in Corey Thornton.

Jalen Coker is determined to show he wasnt a one-trick pony last year.

Obviously, there are some concerns abkut defensive depth. How could there not be? Everything wasnt going to be perfect this year given the dumpster fire last year was.

The Dline looks noticeably improved. Our 2 best defensive players didnt suit up.

And most importantly, no one got hurt.

Last night was a resounding success in my book.

Looking forward to next week

I feel like if we actually do well, a lot of you guys aren't going to know what to do with yourself... life is really effing short...

I'm going to be optimistic until there's a reason not to be.

I saw nothing last night to be upset about personally.

This message board is weird sometimes, and the longer it goes the more i realize how negative a lot of this board is slanted relative to most fans.

No one was upset leaving BOA last night. The coaches were happy. The analytics were good for a lot of guys that we are actually going to depend on.

But, sure, the sky is falling

With the starters? What haven't I heard? Serious question

Of course they wouldn't have been happy with the 3rd stringers. Some of those guys should go ahead and freshen up their resumes.

But do I think they're losing sleep or panicking bc our fringe defensive guys looked like ass?

No. Absolutely not. Nor should they

Starters got smashed their first series by backups

they only had one drive after that.  XL was an idiot.  We got to 3rd and goal and it took a play falling apart and scrabble drill to get in after dropping at wide open TD.

that doesn’t seem like an A.  You can find some good in it.  But overall?

Seven consecutive losing seasons will do that. The offense had one awful three and out then a great TD drive. The D honestly did not play well, even the starters. Shedeur missed a couple of open receivers early and a receiver flubbed up and cut a comeback route half a yard short of the sticks on a 3rd down.

Overall, I didn't see a lot to get excited about to convince me that the results are gonna be much different this coming season.

With the Panthers the reality is it's usually somewhere in the middle. The eternal optimists will barrel in and start saying everybody else is a squidward and the skeptics will say they're being homers. But at the end of the day. The Panthers are gonna Panther. One thing I've learned about this franchise. Don't have expectations. The second you do. They pull the rug right out from under you. The onus isn't on the fanbase to become believers. We've already been here. It's on the team to make believers out of us.
