First half summary.

its a failure of Dave Canales.   Simple as that.  -2 yards for your starting O.   We once again head into a season with a starting O that flat out isn’t ready for the season.

Canales should tear his plans up and play these dudes next week

I mean I doubt it would matter all that much, but if he sits the starters next week then bet your mortgage on the jags week 1.  You cannot clean that type of poo show up in practice

I get what you’re saying, but I just think the overriding factor for me is it just feels like we’re constantly spinning our wheels.  If that is what we were looking for, we had Zane Gonzalez.  We create our own problems and then spend years trying to fix them.

I don't disagree. There's often turnover in places there shouldn't be before there's turnover where it needs to be.

I would about bet on 2 series for the starters Thursday.

Didn’t he say the plan was just to run them only in the first 2 and sit the last?

I might have that wrong.  Hope I do or he junks the old plan.

But the it’s just going to be a repeat of last preseason.  Where his starters only see success vs backup units going in

Yea 3rd game is usually the bubble guy showcase

You're attaching conventional strategy to a coach who often laughs in the face of that. I could very well be wrong but I bet he comes out and says "we weren't sharp, we'll look at the tape and assess it," then the starters roll out there for the opening series.

Meh, I'm not panicking on the offense yet, especially since both teams opposing beat writers said we looked good in joint practice. Everything we have run is very vanilla, and unfortunately it looks like Canales is one of those coaches who doesn't care about preseason games or effort, which is disappointing. Defense though, continues to look rough and that should be one area in preseason where you just go out and execute

Don't know if I can watch more.

Every commercial break, my service talks about a San Fran documentary pulling Montana for Steve Young and a QB controversy, then Micah P, and then maybe season opener with Rams.. and then some other boring generic European soccer clips. And repeat if the break is longer...

Gah..  I prefer the US commercials. I want them. Bad. 😂

I think it all is starting to crystallize for me today…  preseason, even in bad years, used to be exciting and fun.  Watching bottom of the roster guys churn and trying to figure out who should and would stick and who deserves a spot.  Watching guys compete.  But as someone said earlier in the thread, the cupboard has been bare for so long, that as shitty as most of the first string is, once they sit, we are so talent-deficient that all interest goes out the window.  Even where we have interesting guys like a Renfrow or Horn Jr., who is gonna get it to them without throwing them a hospital ball?  Plummer?  Other than that, across the board we are so bad that it’s not competitive.  Who cares who sticks as the 53rd man when the 45 or so above them are barely NFL-worthy.

God, we are horrible.  Way worse than we ever have been.

    • Rico walking is no big deal. I'll take a healthy 2024 Hubbard over Rico any time and losing Mays is, again, no a big deal.  Young is signed for what, $35M for the next two years? Say he wants $50M but the FO doesn't. If they put the franchise tag on him, that would be around $55? So basically they are getting Young for the next 3 years for an average of $30M per year. Putting the franchise tag on him wouldn't be my first choice but it gives them an option that wouldn't be locking him into a long term, $50M contract. I'm not suggestion they do that. Just that the option will be there should they get to that point. Hunt is on a 5 year deal which is done in 28 so he either restructures or is gone anyway. Moton will be 35 by then and will either be gone or have diminished playing time. Neither of those players has anything to do with getting Young a contract. The O line is way overpaid anyway. Hopefully by the time they are gone, Freeling and Hecht will be developed and Ickey will be healthy. Young was benched his second year and only got his job back because Dalton was injured. Not sure how you can call that entitled. And I would NOT say putting a rookie QB on a team with no receivers, tight ends or O lineman and then being put with a coach who never wanted you and is fired mid season, is a definition of luck. As far as competition, no team is going to bring in competition for a QB picked first overall - especially given the capital that was given up to get him.
    • With apologies to Lady Cowboy fan, any day we can screw over the Cowboys is a GOOD day…
    • Been here since 2014ish. Good times. Its a shame Zod wont sell, it wouldnt take that much effort to get this place back into shape.
