They might. But I don't see them getting a 1st AND an impact young defender and any 1st they would get would be from a team that expects that pick to be very low in the round.

You gotta consider that if people REALLY want him, he is close to being a free agent so that you just have to shell out $$$ versus money, a 1st and a player.

 

Remember this is one of three teams that were all-in on Deshaun Watson.  The Falcons bailed because the money got to high.  Tepper bailed because the contract had to be guaranteed in full. Only the Browns were dumb enough to agree to that.  Had the Browns bailed, Watson would be a Panther.

Don't underestimate this team on shying away from absurdly laughable deals.

I am failing to understand why we have a portion of the people in this thread so gung ho about this trade.

Can you please logically explain why we should trade the asking price(or anywhere near, for that matter) and what benefit you hope to accomplish?

The downsides seem to be clear(as have been stated by so many).

Contract Price: Likely north of $30 mil AAV and 3+ years.

Age: Will be 31 by the end of the season

Draft Capital: With a roster bereft of proven talent, why give away a 4-5 year cheap and possibly high end future player?

Player Compensation: What young defensive player do you plan on giving up? Horn and Brown are not a 1:1 trade plus the cap ramifications would be bad. What other young defensive players even have real trade value?

Overall Net Benefit: This team is lacking in talent at a franchise historic level. Wins and playoff contention do not seem to be relatively close. So what is the benefit of adding an aging, expensive,  elite pass rusher to a team in which so much more is needed to be a true competitor? When do you expect that to translate to winning seasons?

Really, someone from the pro-trade camp, just give me a logical case as to why this would be a sound idea.

Bingo. Doesn't matter if it's a Manning, Brady or the reincarnation of Joe Namath in pantyhose. We've got to have a starting caliber NFL QB and if Bryce ain't the guy, we will be in the best position to find one by keeping out 1st round picks. For every Dak, Wilson and Brady there's a Weinke, Grier and Corral.

I don't think the discussions they had with their new coach included "fug it, tank for Arch for however long is necessary" plans. 

I also think people are jumping to assumptions on where he will end up AND when he will leave. 

Don't be shocked to see him play his entire college career out or stay in school to duck a bad franchise(including the Saints, BTW).

Archie has already said he won't be entering the draft next year. They want him playing four years of college ball like he did and like Eli and Peyton did and I mean, I can't argue against it. I'm definitely not going to argue with the Manning family about how to best prepare a young QB for the NFL. Their formula for themselves sure has worked so far.

They have a cap debt to deal with.  Tanking won't be hard to mask in the name of getting their financial house in order.  They are 30th next year in cap room and a dumpster fire.  If they want to get that under control, FA is an afterthought.  Why do you think their QB room looks like it does now?  No desire to upgrade.

      As I've said numerous times the last few days, having Thielen on the field has literally 0% to do with my views on this (I've even said I think Renfrow is going to take a ton of snaps from Thielen anyways).  He has more value to this team without playing a single snap than a 2026 5th round draft pick does for the franchise.   His value is helping set up T-Mac, XL, Coker, and Horn for long term success by helping them learn how to be pros, how to go about their business, how to train, how to do all the little things that helped turn Thielen from a D2 undrafted player into a borderline Vikings legend.

      He only wants to be traded because it's the Vikings who are calling. If he didn't want to be here, he could have retired, instead he took a pay raise to come back for another season.  I get it, it's an opportunity that he'd like to take, but we shouldn't cut off our nose to spite our face because he now wants to jump at this opportunity less than two weeks before the season starts. I'm not against trading him, I'm just against trading him for a return that doesn't help our team as much as having him on the roster would.  I'll put it this way, if a 5th is the best we can get for him from the Vikings and he's now dug in on not wanting to stay this year, I'm saying screw you and trading him to any of the other 30 teams besides the Vikings for the best offer we can get. He was perfectly happy here a week ago, if the Vikings soured him on that and then want to get him for peanuts, then screw them both.

      Yes and no, he wants to go back and his wife most definitely wants to go back. He took a bunch of team mates to Minny and has worked out with JJ two offseasons in a row. It's where both him and his wife are from.    The money was basically a please come back and help Bryce. Pretty please...here's some more money.    Now he's agreed to a paycut to go back to the Vikings.
