ESPN analytics has AT with the 135th YAC rating out of 149 WRs in the NFL last year.  Dead last in Carolina.

274 out of 312 the year before.  Dead last in Carolina.

NFL Receiver Scores - ESPN Analytics

it is a AT thing.  Despite being bad, AT actually occupies the WR spot where YAC production is most easily generated by players.  Should be easier for AT than XL on the outside (in a Dave O w/ BY)

The most productive WR position in a Bryce Young O likely SHOULD be the slot.  Not out wide.  Which is why you don't want AT dominating it.  Because he can't do anything with it accept meet the floor of plays.    An ideal BY passing O would favor the slot, TE, and rec RB given what his arm is and how he plays the game (which we all largely agreed the short quick game was our direction when we drafted BY).

Every spot and role is different based on scheme and QB.  Slot w/ BY should be a YAC centric spot.

I do find it very funny that the source you are referencing also so clearly shows how much better AT has performed in 2024 than anyone on the roster that isn't Jalen Coker.

Look, I get that you have some personal axe to grind with AT but you are genuinely letting it get in the way of your ability to be objective.

He has been overwhelmingly our best WR in 2023 and 2024. It's backed up by statistics, metrics, even the simple eye test.

That's basically what the great roster building work under David Tepper has done. You have a mid-30's, slow #1 WR.

Timestamp of Idzik listing TMac, XL, AT, and Coker as the locks and everybody else fighting for the remaining spots. Saids that they would love 6 - 7 considering the talent that they have.

WR Coach Moore mentions JHJ, Canales asks about Renfrow. No mention of Moore nor Tremayne included. That might be more of a behind closed doors type of discussion.

It's the QB school guy mentality. Thielen is a shitty #1 option so aaarrrrggghhhh FUUUUUUUUUG HIM!!! This dude SUCKS!!!

Yeah, Thielen should no longer be a #1 option at this stage in his career. He honestly shouldn't be a starter at this point in his career. But it's not an Adam Thielen issue that we've had to ask him to do that.

I mean I don't have a personal axe to grind with any human on the Panthers roster.  I know AT shouldn't be dominating the slot. The fact he is....is because we have a horrific front office/management.   I can part with any player.   The goal is a winning team.

the root of the AT ranting, is really just looking out for BY (people like to call me BY hater though).  A QB who was basically screwed from day 1 when we got drafted here.  I went hard at Carolina then too for setting him up to fail. Because it was obvious from the jump the setup was failure by design.  Which was true.   I said Frank made zero sense with BY.  Miles Sandes made double zero sense.  The players they got in FA made zero sense.

Either you build a BY O.....or you move on from BY.  I have said I am cool either way.  We are in no man's land and have been there since they day we drafted him.

Well, welcome to being a Tepper era Panthers fan.

We have maybe up to 10-12 players that would even get serious consideration on the remaining 31 teams in the NFL.

You just need to learn to Tepper your expectations.

espn analytics also had him like 130 in YAC and 90 something in terms of getting open.

I mean, Ricky Prohel had a significant role on that 2003 team.  He didn't start.  Because he wasn't good enough to do that.  If AT is starting for you, it's a problem.

my AT issue is he is taking all the oxygen in the slot.  Despite the fact he has good hands.....he keeps the ceiling incredibly low and THAT is going to be BY's key WR to go to (no matter who it is) given his style and attributes.

I have had the same issue with this BY since the day we drafted him.  You either have a BY O or you don't.  I'm cool either way.  But if you want BY to succeed your talent has to be slot, TE, and rec RB and it's got to be a YAC O.  You put big bodies on the outside and play chunk ball? Well, let's move on now.

That's what they've done though. Tmac, XL and Coker.

XL is 6-1/220

Coker is 6-1/215

Tmac is 6-5/220

None of them are quick twitch shifty speedster types. Coker is the closest but

AT/ Renfrow and Horn are the slot build guys

AT 6-2/200

Renfrow 5-10/185

Horn 5-8/175

Plus Canales likes to go outside and doesn't use the TE much in his offense.

Shrugs...

It's basically Bryce here's the offense, can you run it.

A lot can change over the next week, but here is my best 53-man roster (note: I'm just basing this on guys on the 90 man roster currently). Obviously there could be trades/ waiver claims/ FA signings.

Offense (25)

QB (2): Bryce Young, Andy Dalton

RB (3): Chuba Hubbard, Rico Dowdle, Trevor Etienne, R. Blackshear

TE (4): Tommy Tremble, JT Sanders, Mitchell Evans, James Mitchell (Mitchell has looked good, but I see him on the PS)

WR (7): Tetoria McMillan, Xavier Legette, Adam Theilen, Jalen Coker, Hunter Renfrow, Jimmy Horn, Brycen Tremayne (I would love to see him make the roster, but there are a few players in his mold on the roster--a PS for a year is my call)

OL (9): Ikem Ekwonu, Damien Lewis, Austin Corbett, Robert Hunt, Taylor Moton, Cade Mays, Chandler Zavala, Brady Christensen, Yosh Nijman Jarrett Kingston (looking good at C, can play other spots)

Defense (25)

DL (6): Derrick Brown, Bobby Brown, Ashawn Robinson, Tershawn Wharton, Sam Roberts, Cam Jackson, Shy Tuttle

OLB (5): DJ Wonnum, Pat Jones, Nic Scourton, Princely Umanmielen, Thomas Incoom

ILB (5): Trevin Wallace, Christian Rozeboom, Krys Barnes, Jon Rattigen, Claudin Cherelus, Jacoby Windmon

S (4): Trevon Moehrig, Demani Richardson, Lathan Ransom, Nick Scott

CB (5): Jaycee Horn, Mike Jackson, Chau Smith-Wade, Corey Thornton, Shemar Bartholomew AKayleb Evans

ST (3):

LS: JJ Jansen

P: Sam Martin

K: Matthew Wright Ryan Fitzgerald

Would like to hear everyone's thoughts

Thanks for this, bro.

I like the premise--a few changes I would make are in bold--red are the cuts.

You keep AT unless he WANTS to get traded to a contender during the season.  He's valuable, TET, XL, and Coker need to learn how to be PROFESSIONALS on game day, practice, and the off-season.  That's what you get from AT.  ADDITIONALLY, he is clutch.  He is steady.  At is that savvy vet who will always flash.

I really think they keep 7 WR's if Brycen can operate on special teams.  Week 1 you may see us heavy on WR and OL because of the massive amount of injuries across the league.  Renfrow may even be cool starting on the PS since he lives close and wouldn't need to uproot his family.  You can still make nearly 400K as a vested veteran on an NFL practice squad.  You see more veterans hanging around since the age limit was lifted.

I think the 1st 53 and PS looks like so......

Offense: (25)

QB (2)

Young / Dalton

RB (3)

Chuba/Rico/Etienee

WR (7)

T-Mac/XL/AT/Coaker/Renfrow/JHjr/Brycen

TE (3)

Tremble/Sanders/Evans

OL (10)

Icky/Lewis/Corbett/Hunt/Moten/Brady/Mayes/Yosh/Zavala/Kingston

Defense: (25)

DL: (6)

Brown/Robinson/Turk/Bobby B/Cam Jackson/Sam Roberts

OLB: (5)

Wonnom/PJ2/NicSic/Princely/Incoon

ILB: (5)

Rozeboom/TW/Windmon/Cherelus/Bam

CB: (5)

Horn/MJ/CSW/Thorton/Evans

S: (4)

Tre'Mo/Ransom/Demani/Scott

Specialists: (3)

JJ/Fitz/Martin

Last spot:

Right now I have it as a toss up between DJ Johnson and Bam.  Until NicSic can come back we need an extra edge.  Do we utilize TW more as a blitzer from the middle to keep Bam safe?  I'm not worried about DJJ getting picked up from another team, a little more concerned with Bam.

Practice Squad:

DavidMoore/JamesMitchell/JacolbyGeorge/Tuttle/Crumdley/Ray/DJJohnson/Kantra/Carter/Blacksheer/

Wright/KrysBarnes/MichaelReid/Safety pick up/RB pick up/QB pick up
