I can guarantee you, with absolute confidence and certainty, he was never going to sit out.

You’re probably right on that hypothetical sit out situation. I actually agree.  I just feel we have coddled Bryce for two seasons. It’s time to sink or swim. Thielen was not going to be here next year, and we have a QB decision to make. There are some pretty good QB’s coming out this year so we need to know if it’s time to move on.  This season will give it to us all, raw and unfiltered.

Hunter was always primed to be cut because he was not subject to waiver wire pickups.  Another team could not claim him.  Typical NFL move to not expose a young player with potential to waivers.  This was always likely.

We are no longer dependant on a 37 year old ageing vet WR who wanted out for this team to succeed.  We are past that.  Dan did play hardball.  A 4th and 5th draft pick and we didn't take on any of his salary.  What world is that not a steal?

Cokers injury sucks as I do think he is going to be really good.

Black cat curse is a bunch of BS.

AT was basically Greg Olsen-ish for Bryce.

Scrolling through this thread I was going to point out the same thing same as I believe proudiddy also did above you.  Guy helped the hell out of BY and the rest of the team.  That may hurt us worse than the actual catches he made, though they were nothing to sneeze at either..

Come on bro, of course I know you don’t get paid if you sit out. That’s why the players call it game checks, which are prorated payments for games outside of bonuses.  Like I said, I agree he probably wouldn’t have sat out, but when you’re a multimillionaire with a simple life, your future is set.  AT’s life is not dependent on money. Don’t confuse his life with the plight of the ordinary man.

I have never been a professional athlete but I understand the importance of locker room culture and distractions. Forcing AT to be here would not have gone well.

I am just curious on your perspective. How would that help us in 2026 and beyond?  We had to pull him out of retirement with additional $$$ just to play. This was Thielen’s last year.

If AT was 30 years old and planned to play for 3 more years I understand the uproar. If Bryce can’t make it without a 35 year one year rental this year, he will not make it in 2026 and beyond.  We need to rip the band-aid off and see if he is a franchise QB to build around. If not, we draft a QB again and potentially start over with Canales pick at QB.

    • summary: "let's talk about your draft, what did you think about Freeling" Dan:   guys with a huge upside, can come in and compete to start.  High ceiling "he does what for your offense?" Dan:   it's hard to find left tackles, guys that big and athletic.  We have Icky coming off an injury, we signed Walker, I believe your offensive line can never be too strong.  If we're going to win the game, it's gotta be up front on both sides of the ball, so we make a point of emphasis on making both sides of the front as strong as possible. "how many mocks did you see Monro falling to you." Not many times, left tackles are gonna go a lot earlier than when we took him.  We want to add the best player, in free agency or the draft"  that's our philosophy, to get the best players possible. "Hunter and Brazzell." Dan:  we followed the board.  Lee we felt very highly of him , super strong.  Brazzel so flexible and loose, can open the verticle.  Will Lee we held in high regard. "you take a look at your receiver room, Coker, my goodness, your offensive rookie of the year in Tet.  Lost Rico, but there is Jonathan Brooks. " Brooks coming off two knee injuries, he worked his way back, looking great, fully healthy, will help in pass and run game.  Icky, not sure when he's coming back but we're excited about both "plan on extending Bryce" we'll keep talking, will keep internally.  We believe in him, has such a great grasp of Canales and offense, has improved every year. "he's clearly come back from the benching, the arrow is trending up, where does he feel" Bryce knows where we stand with him, when and if a deal gets done, he knows we feel great with him, we'll get something done at the right time. "if this a prove it situation?" everyone in the building has to prove it, has to earn it. Tmac was everything we wanted, his work ethic, he's so big and talented, but he puts the work in, and is a great teammate. "your level of expectation, the building's level of expectation for 2026 "our goal is to win the division every year, we know we have to earn it.  we have to put the work in every day, proving it on the practice field, and our  guys know that." "schedule" we haven't opened at home in 2 or 3 years.  We love prime time games, hope we get some "
    • this one is gold:     Bryce has a cult inside the Panthers fanbase that has truly developed some NPC hivemind. I'll never understand how he's captured the true essence of the casual fan like that.
    • "everybody has to earn it, heading in the right direction, feel great about him, get it done at the right time"     Mother fuger
