How many games before they pull the plug for good

Assuming he plays like he did on Sunday rather than what he was down the stretch last year, I'd think it would depend on how the conversations behind closed doors go between Canales and Tepper. If Canales feels like he's on the brink of being fired, he probably pulls the plug quicker. If he has some assurances from Tepper that he will give him time, possibly allow him to draft his own QB for year 3, than he probably rides BY out to 100% know if they want to draft a guy or not.

I think Tepper gave Canales the window to move on from BY last season after 2 games and end the BY experiment.

I think Morgan for whatever reason wouldn't part w/ the QB HE drafted with Fitterer and it cameback to screw Canales.

I don't see how Tepper can essentially treat Canales like a brand new start/era in year 3 at this point.  Bryce got tied to him this year.

Canales must be really kicking himself right now not going to the mat to upgrade the backup starting spot. Dalton looks completely washed at this point. If we had a better backup you'd be more tempted to give Bryce the hook.

They chose to resign Dalton and kept Plummber after looking like poo for forever. Im just not sure he has realized his mistake yet which says a lot about his ability. Same with Morgan. Insert Evero still being here. It's a trend

Yeah, he did kind of tie himself last year, saying he was our guy, at the same time though, I know its only perception and maybe it doesnt matter/shouldnt affect Teppers decision, but blowing another headcoach out so quickly is not going to look good. I know its 1/32 and feels like it doesnt matter and coaches will come and try regardless, I just wonder if at some point that ends up mattering, or maybe it has already since Canales wasnt exactly sought after.

I honestly don't know how much of it was on them and how much Tepper may have been involved. I'm sure after Bryce came back and looked decent last year Tepper was probably all in again. Not sure if he was willing to allow a legit backup that might actually push Bryce or if he was wanting to stick with a mentor holding a clipboard as backup.

I really wish we'd made a move for Howell with him getting traded for peanuts. This wouldn't been a good opportunity for him to get another shot starting because I'm not sure he's long for the league as a backup. I just don't think he has a backup's mentality.

I mean was this Canales's decision? Did he say he didn't want to try to upgrade the backup position? It seems to be a trait of the organization to not have QB competition the only notable exception being the 2022 season which had a farce competition between Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold which seems like the best QB room the Panthers have had in many years in retrospect.

Yeah, I acknowledged as much above. I'm just saying Canales probably regrets not being very forceful with a push to upgrade the spot. He should've went to Tepper and just been like "Look, I know Bryce played better after coming back from the benching but at the same time we gotta protect ourselves here and have a better option behind him if he reverts back to his old ways. At this point in his career Dalton is simply not it. We need to look for a backup who can actually PLAY if we need it. Going into his third season Bryce doesn't need a mentor with a clipboard anymore. We need a PLAYER there."

I mean I agree with you but I don't think it's on Canales. We don't know what he asked for in the offseason and I haven't heard him say he didn't want competition at the QB spot. From what I can see from this franchise, it's Tepper who wants the QB coddled. Every year the starting QB is unchallenged.

It wouldn't have taken much to upgrade at the #2 spot. They took the jobs under those conditions, whatever they really are now. Poop rolls downhill and it's a messy process. That's an area you push to sneak 1 guy into the roster while admiting Dalton is washed and a bad setup in these conditions. Whats he going to do fire them, pay them regardless and probably improve their value by being proven right in the end?

I'm not trying to blame him I'm just saying he probably regrets not being very aggressive about it

Hopefully about at least 13, potentially all 16 more

Ride this bitch out on the rims and if we're in the running for the #1 pick, keep riding them, if we're not but still a Top 10 pick, go for a tire change and give Hooker a start or two and just see what might happen.

Not expecting him to show he can be a long time solution in that situation, but if there isn't a great QB option for where we might be picking, it could let us pass on drafting a QB, use the draft capital to build the defense and give him a shot in 26 with a new backup who can start if it goes poorly.

I don't think we really need to go that long. I'd rather see if the third QB on our roster could be a backup or something.  Highly unlikely he'll bring us any wins. So let's send Bryce packing if things continue to stink this bad. We need a real QB to find out about Coker/XL. Tet seems set as a good to great WR.

But I get what you're saying too. Id just rather not check out of another Panthers season at game 2.
