Why is everyone focused on BY while the real problem is ignored

Seems like almost everyone here blames Young for the Panthers losses while completely ignoring the defense and its impact on their record.

Last year, they gave up 32 points a game which means they had to, on average, score 33 to win. In fact, in their last two wins, the Panthers scored 36 and 44 and they still just barely won as the defense gave up 30 and 38. Having to score 33 points to win a game is untenable long term regardless who your QB is.

I have no idea why Canales decided to bring him back but given it was his decision to bring him back, Canales fate may be more closely tied to him than Youngs.

Huddler  A: hey, this D stinks

Huddler B : I mean, yeah, it does.

I think people just agree.  Weak talent, weak coach.  It’s gonna be bad this year.

Everything has been dumped into the O.  And it’s bottom of the league.

if we had the most expensive DL in the entire NFL and had spent the last 3 first round picks to go along with that DL….people would be raging about it more

Nobody is ignoring it. It’s just we’ve invested all our resources into drafting Young, finding him weapons, and signing offensive linemen.

We’ve had one of the least talented defenses in the league and an offense who keeps giving the ball away or going 3 and out. Whether Evero is a good coach or not…. He’s certainly more capable than what he’s shown here.

The Panthers had the worst defense in the history of the NFL last season and yet somehow, instead of commenting on how dissappointed they are in it or why might be the cause of it or how frustrated they are, the first 7 responses are all about BY.

This place really has gone to crap. It's a one themed forum. Just change the name to the Bryce Young Sucks forum and quick pretending you car about the rest of the team.

I mean when you can't sustain drives and turn the ball over, you don't give your defense much of a chance

I bet Evero is in meetings like “If we had any other quarterback, I would not have given up the most points by any defense in NFL history”

oh wait how many points did Andy Dalton have to score to win his one game last year….

The defense is honestly BY FAR our biggest problem. Bryce Young’s play may be #2 and whoever decided to decide that turnstile instead of Brady Christensen who played BETTER than Icky when he was in at LT is firmly #3.

We will see if that is still the order after week 2 if Bryce steps up his play.

Also I would say 98% of the huddle is in agreement Evero is not it.

But no discussion about the defense changes the fact that we have invested exorbitant resources in the offense via the draft and free agency in our attempt to make Bryce Young a serviceable starter.

    • Yep. I was hoping for and calling for a day three guy. But I didn’t research the position to say if we should or should‘t have jumped at a particular guy at a particular spot.    And everything I read said it was a poor draft for RBs depth wise. I guess when Seattle takes a backup RB in the 1st, that kind of backs that up.    I definitely think we should keep 4 running backs and if King can play well enough then keep him too.    I believe I heard Canales say we are a running team (talking about drafting a WR he will be needing to block as well as catch). Well if we are gonna be a running team by identity we don’t need to stock the WR room to overflowing. If one room has to sacrifice, it should not be the RB room given our circumstances.
    • If there's a pattern I'm definitely picking up from Dan and company is a philosophy of making trades where we try not to sacrifice the number of draft picks we have by day's end. In other words, we're not giving up three picks for one, or giving up a future pick to make a pick today. And even if we give up something at the start, we make trades later to make up for that initial loss. Here's how it stacked up for 2026: How we started: 19, 51, 83, 119, 158, 159, 200 How we ended: 19, 49, 83, 129, 144, 151, 227 (no future picks sacrificed) Ultimately, we moved up two spots in the second to ensure we got someone we coveted, gave up a few spots for our fourth round pick, but then had better picks in the 5th (and got really good value out of them), and had a worse 7th rounder which isn't that big of a loss anyways.  At this point, we can question who they draft, but they're pretty good maneuvering across the draft board.
    • I just saw the funniest thing...or very disappointing, depending how you handle misery. A guy on YouTube did a 2027 'way too early' mock draft.  If I told you the simulator has the Panthers selecting in the top 10 , what would you say?  If I told you it was pick #8 and only two QBs were taken in the top 7, what would you say?  If I told you this dude had us taking a defensive player, what would you say?
