Defense is turning around?

I've never been an Evero fan but ignoring all the BY noise, I can't help but notice that they have been fairly solid so far this year. Not perfect, but definetly heading in the right direction. Hopefully they will keep it up and I can post a big apology to him at the end if the season.

They’re gonna have to go up against a real offense before any kind of judgement can be made of them.

Tlaw looks like damaged goods, Kyler is completely washed, and Penix….well….

they look better compared to last season but that’s what you’d expect with a healthy brown and horn.

I haven’t seen anything that indicates they’ll be considered an overall good defense when the dust has settled. 2002 it is not.

The Jags are 2-1, the Cardinals are 2-1 only losing to the 49's at the last second and the Falcons scored 22 and 20 against the Vikings and Bucs the two weeks prior to the Panthers. Not sure I would consider any of them trash.

the defense doesn’t go up against records.

you could have out south meck out there against the falcons Sunday.

Evero runs a defense that is a bend & wait for mistakes defense. That's why it only flashes a handful of times a season while getting blown out most games. Requires an offense that can get & build a lead early.

If the Panthers can get up by 10 points, the weaknesses of Evero & Young can be covered up. TMac keeps the defense honest with his presence & this opens up the running game. Allows Young to be strictly a point guard & not have to carry the offense.

It won't be sustainable against the better teams. We'll need playmaker in the front 7 & a QB who can come up clutch in close 4Q games.

We don’t know what most of these teams are this early.

We also don't know what we are.  In the first two games, turnovers killed us, and made the defense look worse than it actually was.  We also have a lot of new guys learning their roles.  During the first game, I listened to the Radio broadcast, and Luke basically said that our defense was pretty good when playing straight up, but got confused and out of place when the offense motioned.  I think that is due to young/inexperienced players on defense, especially at linebacker.

Too soon to say. Health of Jaycee, Mike Jack, and Brown is going to be huge. It’s been huge the past few years and will continue to be until we draft better players. Luckily I think Scourton and Princely might be good enough to be in the way of offenses year one and maybe grow into playmakers in the future. I still think there are 4 better inside backers working at Walmart than what we have on this roster.

    • So Willis had a good game against a poor defense and all of a sudden he is worth 50 million and is guaranteed to be better than Young. LOL I know he looked good in the 3 games he started, and I think he will have success long term, but anyone signing him up for a long term contract for 50 million is taking a huge risk.
    • Is he really though? Rivera was past his prime and probably shouldn't have even started 2019 so his firing wasn't really unexpected or unwarranted. Rhule lasted two and a half years which was about one year too long in my opinion. Bringing him back that third year certainly wasn't impulsive and I would say Tepper was more patient than he should have been. Wilks finished out that third season and did pretty good but most everyone could see he really wasn't anything more than an intern HC. Bringing him back was not the long term answer so not bringing him back was the correct call. Hiring Reich was a mistake from the beginning and he recognized that fairly quickly. I am sure he knew he was going to catch a lot of sh*t for firing him so quickly ( and boy did he ) but it was absolutely the right thing to do given everything that was going on. The firing may have looked impulsive, but I think it was him recognizing he had royally f*ck up and just dealt with it instead of letting it fester.  That brings us to Canales. 2025 was only his second season and yet he delivered 8 wins and the NFC South title. And while that might not sound great, given the lack of talent and cap space they started with, it's a strong step in the right direction. I couldn't imagine Tepper not being pleased with their progress given the crap the Panthers' have been though under his ownership.
