Trade Deadline Discussion: Panthers Players Who Could Be Moved

Recommended Posts

I know the trade deadline is still a long way off, but with the Panthers sitting at 1–2 and not looking like playoff contenders, I wanted to take a realistic look at players we could potentially move. Honestly, it was harder than expected to find tradeable talent, that is, either guys underperforming or players on the final year of their deal. Here’s the short list I came up with and what I think their market value might be:

Player

Position

Age (2025)

Contract Status

Estimated Trade Return

Xavier Legette

WR

23

Rookie contract (team control but underperforming)

Late 3rd–early 4th if buyer believes in upside; 5th floor

D.J. Johnson

DE/OLB

26

Rookie deal through 2026

5th–6th round; toolsy pass rusher with cheap control but low production

David Moore

WR

30

Expiring after 2025

6th–7th round depth rental

Nick Scott

S

29

Expiring after 2025

6th–7th round depth/ST

Akayleb Evans

CB

26

Expiring after 2025

6th–7th round if CB injuries hit contender

James Mitchell

TE

26

Expiring after 2025

6th–7th round late flier for TE depth

Who the fug is trading anything for David Moore or Nick Scott?

If I could get someone to offer a third for XL I'm taking it with no hesitation.

I honestly tried so hard, looked at all the players on the final year of their contracts, not likely to be resigned, could bring us anything in return.   Not a long list.  Had to remove people like Renfrow, Jansen, Corbett, as they are all very unlikely to be moved. Brady Christensen and Yosh Nijman were thoughts, but I felt their value was too high for us to part with.

XL is the only interesting person there and they probably don’t get higher than a 4th with maybe some swap shenanigans.

Hes not produced at all in the nfl, has terrible fundamentals, and right now it’s looking like he’s got the dreaded “not committed to the game” moniker. plus the panthers can’t keep him around.

more I think about it them more I think it’s a seventh from a team that doesn’t want to risk losing him if he’s cut.

dj Johnson is worthless.

THIS neeeeeeeds to happen

DJ probably doesn't want to return to a such a lousy franchise. A contender, like possibly KC if they don't fall completely apart, would be where I'd be trying to go if I were him. Buffalo? Ravens?

    • Was going to post pretty much the same thing, the next few weeks will dictate
    • Stroud will be fine. Yeah they need to fix his OL they stripped apart and yeah he is currently playing bad with his new OC and no OL. The main difference is Stroud showed what he can be for a whole season his rookie year, plus went to the playoffs in each of his first two seasons. I believe he is 2-2 in the playoffs at a very young age for a franchise that was the 2nd worst when they drafted him. This season looks bad but it’s also very early. I will say that this season so far gives you a glimpse of how Stroud would look here. It’s still very much a team sport and always will be.
    • Totally fair assessment + criticisms. The breaking down of abilities though... he really is and has been processing things at a high level. The rookie season to forget, while many casual fans were upset that their eye test was being failed, many folks that know ball saw the insanity taking place with the highly touted coaching staff that end up being the biggest bust we have seen in a long time, an injury-riddled OL, and subpar weapons. Those were called excuses then and now. Hell, even the criticisms about Bryce's arm strength seem to revolve around plays where he was unable to set his feet and deliver the ball. Not always, but there's been enough video showing stuff for example how many catchable deep balls thrown that aren't due to receivers not holding on. The difference in how the team handled the blitz in week 3 makes me wonder how much of those first two weeks' blitz pick-up issues were on Corbett. I think Stroud should be fine so long as he doesnt regress to how he was in college for all but the Georgia game. Pressure would really, really rattle him. That was the main reason why 3wks before the draft I put Bryce as 1a and CJ as 1b. Before anyone thinks that I'm just arguing to be right, I also thought that Max Duggan was a mid-round steal so being right clearly isnt that important to me as much as it is figuring out where I got it wrong (the league just wasnt ready for Max's greatness... 😤).
