With the 1st Pick in the 2026 Draft....

We blew it by paying that price to move into it. I would picked CJ of the two every time but I don’t think I felt like he was worth that price either.
I hate trading future 1sts I just hate it, so that was never going to be okay with me.
You can’t judge from one game but Giants took Dart at 25 and he won his first start - against a 3-0 team. Yeah WC team 1pm game in NYC is a huge disadvantage but I doubt people expected that.
Yeah to your point I would rather take someone that you can sit until you think they are ready. They can be found.

Bo Nix led Denver  to a 10-7 playoff birth in his rookie season. He had 29 TD's/12 INTs/93.3 RTG. He was picked at #12.

Big Ben went at #11.

Deshaun Watson looked like a potential HoF QB before the sex scandal and dispute with Houston management derailed his career. He went at #12.

You don't have to pick in the top 5 to find a franchise guy. You just have to pick the RIGHT GUY and put him in a position to succeed.

We had the 1st pick in the draft and blew it.

I would like to add that Bo Nix and Big Ben went to very strong organizations, with veteran head coaches. That will always help. So, bringing a rookie QB to Charlotte with an unimpressive HC and very little proven talent is a recipe for disaster.

Brees wasn’t 6’4” otherwise he looks like a QB. Mayfield is about his size.
Thise guys are the edge of the envelope, where I look at a guy and have questions. Size wise they are the Southern borderline. Don’t cross it.

Bro you can keep Murray. I will be good if a Murray slips through the cracks because of my higher bar. Outlier and not really that good a pro. At all. I agree he has tools.  Fast elusive and a cannon. But I play the odds when it comes to this stuff.

And Wilson was a third rounder and honestly I never thought he was that good. (Jump balls and a killer running attack and a killer D, he had success). Not so much since…(but he worked out great for a third round investment. That’s how you do it.Also, the context here is 1st round high pick that’s where I am at with it).

I think you are missing the point. All these guys had elite attributes. Arm strength, accuracy, athleticism, etc.

Those were things Bryce didn't truly have.

So, look AT THE BARE MINIMUM for that as a starting point.

Let’s be real. The panthers have only had one QB they drafted that worked out. Cam. Collin’s was a drunk that worked 5 years later with a couple teams.

1 QB in 30 years. What makes everyone think whoever they draft is gonna work?  Canales is a beta male who shows zero back bone and leadership.

I guess I did miss that point. Or I wasn’t clear.
What I was saying is I would exclude people that don’t fit within my prototypical box. Dismiss them just out of hand. I would rather screw up by passing on a unicorn than being stuck like we got stuck. The evaluation of those who do fit in the box should proceed as normal.

Nah, I can't just dismiss based on "needs to meet X measurables." I wouldn't want to do that per se.

Okay you can’t be in my front office lol.

That got us Bryce. Who would we have missed out on if we said minimum 6’ 200lb to make the cut? Murray?
Like Parcels said, he better walk on water at that size.

I mean I always thought Mike Glennon was just too tall lol.

But out of full disclosure, footwork and arm should have excluded Bryce from serious high pick consideration at any size

Keep in mind I do not exclude them on day 2 or 3.

    • When does he play well? Asking for a friend
    • I mean he would have to fully have his head up his ass to not see how limited his offense is and yeah that run play on 3rd down was as obvious of a public signal as it gets. It's honestly crazy how much we have normalized our 4th head coach in 4 years basically being forced to play a QB he had no part in drafting and instead inherited. Yes we did technically hire him to "fix" Bryce Young but wtf was he or anyone else going to do to change Bryce Young's size and lack of physical talent. And Bryce Young won't go anywhere near the weight room now three fuging offseasons in a row but we're trying to set an example for our roster by deactivating WR's and cutting players for performance issues. Regardless of if Canales pans out as a head coach the structure and process of this franchise is a complete and utter joke and that begins and ends with the Tepper's.
    • We're to the point that our only hope is horse poo luck. That Tepper hits on a scratch off lottery ticket that these third rate candidates that are willing to work for him are and that we fall backasswards into a QB. Hoping for organizational competency at this point just isn't logical. We just have to get really damn lucky.
