Do you think this team worries about dead cap? This team has been FUBAR long before Tepper arrived. Their contracts are set up for a win now team with their money allocated in the wrong positions with older players. If they were truly rebuilding their would be more rookie contracts and little to no vet contracts over 2 years. By the time they get enough talented rookies on this team that will nedd second contracts they will still have all their money tide up in aging gets. Its FUBAR.

No I'm saying they can't afford it. The team has 10m in cap space in 2026. If the roll over everything, they'll have 28m in cap space and need around 11m for draft picks. They can't afford to trade Horn or Moton at all and trading Brown would leave them very little space.

I'm honestly excited about Canales next year with his QB. I think there's no doubt now we take a QB first round, there's just too many coming out next year we will get a decent one. I really hope we go get Winston tho to start, he will make a ton of mistakes but we could at least see the full offense. That being said, all bets off if a team makes a dumb move and a really good coach becomes available.

I think the front office would have issues if they were hired.  And I think the D would be better.   They would be more aggressive.

offense? everyone going to have a BY issue that isn't some scheme wiz like a Shanahan.  He could improve the O.

They don't need to either. the "blow it up and start again" approach is for teams with expensive QBs who aren't performing. See the Saints last year. You don't need to blow it up when you aren't paying your QB, we aren't in as bad a spot as some think. Figure out QB next year with a combo of a rookie 1st round pick and a cheap vet (Winston) and nail the rest of the draft (big if) and you are right where you need to be. This years draft so far seems to be REALLY good we are getting legit production from all these guys but JHJ so far. We are not in an awful spot.

Its not about space. It's dumping long term contracts. They need more rookies to develop on cheap contracts. They do not need to sign FA'S period. If they do it's for scrub roster fillers. They have been paying those scrubs primer starter money on long term contracts. They are going to have to draft their way out the nfl basement and not buy their way out which Tepper and his GM minions have been trying to do.

I thought tepper fired Frank because they disagreed on Bryce running more RPO and hired Canalas with the mind set he would be creating an offense around the RPO.  Yet we don't see that.

Pretty sure Bryce gets destroyed in an RPO offense but couldnt really do worse than he has been doing.

I dont think there is a coach alive that could win with BY as his QB in the nfl unless they have a hof running back and oline so byoung never has to throw.

RPO IMO doesn't suit Bryce at this level because of his size.  He is too close to the line trying while trying to make the reads on that.

it means you got to make a quick decision while positioned behind the massive OL/DLs.  Bryce needs to drop further to see clearly

New Rookie Pictures Reveal How Much Smaller Bryce Young Is

Oof that picture. Cannot fathom anyone in the decision making process thought this was going to be a rousing success.

If you start firing coaches and benching your starting qb you signal the season is over and the purge must begin. That includes trading players for draft picks.

No? There's no rule for that, just what some fans want.  And we probably start trading assets if we hit the trade deadline with one win anyway.  It's more about if the team can improve in the next few weeks.

Evero is clearly the "HC" of the defense. He and Canales clearly disagree on who should play. Evero still being DC, and who he is playing, is an indication that Canales doesn't have control of the team.

Bryce is IMO a separate situation. Dude just doesn't have it.

    • If Mays has a market, which it seems he will, he's gone.  I think we bring back Nijman for too much money to be cautious at LT, Corbett comes back cheap since he's already said he wants to live in CLT, and Christensen eventually gets re-signed with the hopes he can be depth at some point.  Draft an OT, draft a C. The OL might be rough for stretches next year, but time to get some youth there to prepare for Bryce in 2027 or the next QB. I still think we compete for the division in 2026 and can go back to the playoffs unlike the oddsmakers in Vegas, but the *real* year is 2027 IMO. Either Bryce has proven it and he's the QB looking at his 2nd contract, or we have the ready-made team for the next rookie QB or Vet we trade for.
    • The Panthers are going to have a lot more flexibility in free agency than it looks like at first glance. On paper, the cap space might seem tight, but there are several obvious restructure candidates that could easily free up significant room. Between converting base salaries into signing bonuses and spreading cap hits out over future years, Carolina could realistically clear $60–80 million in additional space if they wanted to be aggressive. That kind of flexibility means they’re not stuck. They can extend key young pieces, add help along the offensive line, upgrade the defense, and still be strategic about value signings. Letting Cade Mays test the market makes sense from a leverage standpoint. If he’s willing to come back on a team-friendly deal, great, continuity on the line matters. But if his market price climbs, the Panthers should absolutely explore upgrades. The point is, this front office isn’t boxed in. With cap maneuvering and smart structuring, they have the ability to be active players in free agency rather than sitting on the sidelines like we are used too.
