I find it funny that these guys sign up for this job after multiple meeting with Tepper.

Coaches or GMs who 'didn't interview well' or decline further interviews show a lot of intelligence IMO. Tepper has a type and it's why the team is a constant dumpster fire.

That's why it's guys who don't have equivalent opportunities elsewhere. I mean, if someone offers me a fat ass paycheck with a guaranteed contract to take a job I'm not qualified for I'm gonna take it and be a whipping boy for awhile with a poo eating grin on my face and move on relieved when they fire me.

Here's what I would say: he's trying to solve a lot of problems and he's not sleeping a lot.

The NFL head coaching gig is HARD on people.  Dave is trying to be too nice, make everyone happy, and keep the vibes and smiles going.  I get it.  But leadership is hard.  You have to be a hard person.  In the NFL, you have to crush dreams daily.  Sure, you can lift guys up, but you also have to cut, demote, and fire people.

Whether it's his religiosity or his personality, Dave is going to have to learn to be ruthless.  We haven't seen that too much.  Stop blowing smoke, kissing butt, and just be honest.  Certainly be respectful, but you have to be 100% honest.

He's already shown he's a nice guy, I don't think it will work for him to become ruthless at this point. The players will see right through it.

You can start out a hard ass then let up a little but not the other way around. lol

Yeah, you can't turn a 180 degree.  But instead of saying "C'mon guys, you're pros!" Dave has to find a different messaging style that demonstrates urgency.

Depends because these guys can do substantial damage to their profession careers vs you and me just moving elsewhere in our professions. The pool of NFL employees is pretty small vs other industries. Doesn't make sense to me for young guys like DC even with the cash in hand philosophy being always relevant.

It gets guys who are dumb and don't know better or guys who know they aren't likely to get many chances IMO. Neither being good options

If Urban Meyer can still get a job you have to be a pretty sh*ty individual to ruin your career in football.

The NFL is a small fraternity and all these dudes know each other. They talk and know what’s what. Hey John, how’d that interview with Tepper go? … wait, he said what?

I’d argue that Frank 100% knew what was coming his way. Not his first rodeo with an owner like Tepp. He knew the probably of getting lied to was about 100%, and I’d say he played his hand masterfully. Keep letting BY get killed by left sided speed rushers until Tep had no choice but to fire him before BY ended the season in traction.

Canales is in WAY over his head and I’m sure is praying to get fired, but he lacks the savvy that Frank had.

Immense pressure will do that. Look at how our Presidents normally age during their terms.

I was a high school basketball coach for a long time, and being the head guy running a program will absolutely take years off your life if you aren't careful. Those 70 hour work weeks stacked on top of each other, the pressures of dealing with so many stakeholders, your mind constantly "on" the gig even during the offseason.... and I didn't have nearly the pressure to win a bunch of games. Being an NFL coach is that x 1000.

My point is that there are 32 head coaches, all of which in the same high pressure job. But none of the other coaches look like they are as stressed out and defeated as the coaches under Tepper. These guys look like they are in the last week of BUDS at a certain point.

    • So Willis had a good game against a poor defense and all of a sudden he is worth 50 million and is guaranteed to be better than Young. LOL I know he looked good in the 3 games he started, and I think he will have success long term, but anyone signing him up for a long term contract for 50 million is taking a huge risk.
    • Is he really though? Rivera was past his prime and probably shouldn't have even started 2019 so his firing wasn't really unexpected or unwarranted. Rhule lasted two and a half years which was about one year too long in my opinion. Bringing him back that third year certainly wasn't impulsive and I would say Tepper was more patient than he should have been. Wilks finished out that third season and did pretty good but most everyone could see he really wasn't anything more than an intern HC. Bringing him back was not the long term answer so not bringing him back was the correct call. Hiring Reich was a mistake from the beginning and he recognized that fairly quickly. I am sure he knew he was going to catch a lot of sh*t for firing him so quickly ( and boy did he ) but it was absolutely the right thing to do given everything that was going on. The firing may have looked impulsive, but I think it was him recognizing he had royally f*ck up and just dealt with it instead of letting it fester.  That brings us to Canales. 2025 was only his second season and yet he delivered 8 wins and the NFC South title. And while that might not sound great, given the lack of talent and cap space they started with, it's a strong step in the right direction. I couldn't imagine Tepper not being pleased with their progress given the crap the Panthers' have been though under his ownership.
