Little light hearted topic.. For whatever reason Cam Newton doesn't appear in Madden ultimate team every year for whatever reason like most legends. I personally believe it's due to them robbing him of appearing on the cover of the video game series during his peak years winning NFL rookie of the year and the MVP super bowl run.

Needless to say I'm a huge Competitive Madden ultimate team player spending hours of days crunching numbers and churning roster management. When this was announced it was a lightening rod in the Madden community. Competitive players know Newton is a game changer.. Your talking fastest quarterback in the game and highest throwing power in the game when he drops. That a long with. Unheard of ability at quarterback like freight train the ability to run over linebacker and corners and I was stoked. I m ashamed to say how much money threw at the game to try to pull newton and failed

But it's a big deal seeing as every pro Madden player most certainly has to have him on their roster and the card art is pretty sweet. IMG_20251006_123615.thumb.png.ce8728a563cb1f858894bf991ff3d492.png

Yeah saw that yesterday when I turned the game on and immediately started thinking wait...when is the last time cam has been in the game??

Not sure myself and I have bought every Madden to come out in the last 20 or so years.. I'm sure he was in the game when he was playing ball most of his career but after that I dunno if it was a licensing issue or what.. he became scarce.. that said the Panthers  don't get many legend/ hall of fame QBs if you play mut. I wanna say he's the only one.. you don't get Jake or Collins or whoever. You do get Bryce but they always give him like the weakest arm in the game so he's almost unplayable.

Cam on the other hand comes with top end speed at the position.. probably the strongest arm at the time of release, most strength at the position and a rocket arm.. he's a offense changer.

I won't depress myself by getting wistful about the good ole days.

I'll just say I'm so happy that Cam is getting recognition as one of the all-time great players in NFL history. The Panthers will always have that.

I feel like that if we ever finally win a SB that I'll be able to go back and enjoy '03 and '15 a lot more. It just feels like winning the lottery is more likely than us winning a SB and I didn't even buy a ticket.

EA is being sold so if you think it can't get worse then you had better buckle up.

I gave up on them long ago when Madden became more for children buying cards vs the great days of franchise mode.

Yeah, I've always just been an offline franchise mode type of guy and EA just doesn't care at all about people like me anymore because there's no ongoing revenue stream for them out of people like me. I honestly play the older games more simply because the offline franchise mode was better in those games. From a pure business model perspective I completely get it. But it just sucks for people like me who have no interest in the online stuff and just fire the game up every now and then, usually to get my off-season football fix. I'd be more than happy to give them $60 every year for a game with good offline franchise mode updated but minus that I'll just keep playing the old games and buy last year's game at a discount every two or three years to give a "new" one a shot.

    • Hello, soccer fans [crickets, tumbleweed flies by]. The World Cup kicks off in less than 2 weeks and, well, 🇺🇸USA USA USA🇺🇸 and all. We beat Senegal 3-2 yesterday in a tune-up friendly at BoA, with Christian Pulisic finally entering the scoring column.  How will we do in the World Cup once our tournament kicks off on the 12th? Well, there are 48 teams (assuming Iran is there) and it feels like one of two thing happens: we get grouped for the first time since '98, or we make it to the Round of 16 for the third time in the last four World Cups. I tried out the lottery for an Atlanta game and struck out, so yesterday was as World Cup as I'll get for in-person ($285/ticket for like Norway vs $39/ticket for USMNT right beforehand was a layup).  The U.S. has a travel-heavy schedule in group play, playing in LA, Seattle and LA. Real road warrior mentality being built. Glad the east coast gets worse kickoff times for a NA World Cup than a Qatar World Cup.
    • Well, that's the thing. Drafting players only for their physical measurables as you are suggesting only really happened during 2024, and X unfortunately has become the poster child for that. To be clear, it's not necessarily about drafting RAS over skill, but RAS over NFL-readiness and/or a solid body of work. Lots of players show skill in college, but those skills don't necessarily translate to the NFL for a multitude of reasons. But, getting back to the main point, to be clear, I believe that our FO is still enamored with physical gifts (who wouldn't be?), but now they're letting Dr. Eric Eager's proprietary system--his "secret sauce" prioritize the players that the Panthers draft, and it seems like it weighs not only a solid body of work, relative to a college career of course, but consistent gradual improvement as evidenced by production pretty highly.
    • Its a good article about how pathetically bad our past drafts ('23 and '24) have been. Building the team in '23 since we weren't ready yet and taking your qb in '24 made so much more sense in hindsight. Ladd McConkey over XL is pretty much a given but not sure it does as much to change Bryce's trajectory as the author suggests.  As bad as '23 and '24 drafts were, the '25 and '26 really give me hope.
