Where do you fall on the Bryce Young spectrum?

  1. 1. It's been so spirited for so long, let's draw some lines in the sand. Where do you fall on the Bryce spectrum?

    • Full-on fan - He is our Franchise QB, present & future
    • The door is still open for him being the answer
    • The door is closed barring a major run
    • Nope, he's not the answer - Doesn't matter what he does

I feel like Young lost a year with the Reich-Thomas Brown debacle in year one and that really hampered some growth he may have had.

With that said, he’s played enough games for me to just not see a franchise qb. I think there is a path for him to be a serviceable qb with a strong running game, good offensive line, and good defense. He could probably be a qb that could win a division in the right circumstances.

But it’d be a firm no from me on giving him a big contract at this point without him elevating his play well above where he’s played for two and a half years so far.

Eh I’m still going to harp on the amount of sub 200 yard passing games he’s put up, he struggles consistently to reach that 200 yard amount week in and out

again not his fault where he got drafted but no need to lower expectations just because of the investment we’ve put into him

I mean, I don’t have to explain Brett Favre and Teddy Bridgewater were doing drastically different things with the football.   If someone doesn’t want to acknowledge that, no one convince them to see it

Same with Bryce and basically every QB you named.  Bryce and Cam Newton flat out shouldn't  be judged by just cherry picking a random stat.  Convo is broader.  They played the position nothing alike.  You can also take completion % as another example.  Bryce’s should be drastically higher than a Cam in terms of completion % because of how they go about the pass game (pre injury Cam).

every QB you named was aggressive with the ball (we ain’t talking ancient Brees here).  Bryce isn’t.  Not pulling numbers if you refuse to accept basics.

Not cherry picking when I was simply addressing the point of too many ints and I see no reason why Bryces should be "drastically" higher especially given the fact that Newton had Steve Smith, Greg Olsen and Brad Lafell to throw to while Bryce had Theileln, Mingo, and Johnson. If anything, Bryce should have been worse but since you accuse me of cherry picking, I'll add this:

Newton completed 57.7 % of his passes with the Pro Bowl players; Young completed 60.9% even with inferior talent to throw to.

newton had horrible accuracy every agrees on that his athletic ability made up for it.  bryces accuracy from just watching is on par with newtons but newton had a way sttonger arm so would attempt alot more longer passes.  bryce attempts short passes for most part still has horrible accuracy and has prtty much 0 athletic ability to go with it

Option 2 for me

He’s only 24 years old and this organization set him up to fail horribly from day 1

Seems like there may be a light at the end of tunnel all of a sudden but until I see this organization turn it around and see Bryce with a proper team around him I don’t want to see them ship him off

I’m obviously on the other end of the spectrum, but I can respect this; especially coming from you. You have proven to know what you’re talking about

This is my hang up, overall. It’s a struggle for him to get past 200 yards. I need to see more 300 yard games and a 400 yarder mixed in. He can’t do that.

I get it,  but you then choose to compare that to other QBs…who largely attack the pass game vastly different than Bryce.   So you got to talk beyond the stat while having the convo.

Bryce should have a high completion % given the way he attacks field vs how a young Cam did or a Jake.   Always going to the but the talent! ….does’t work at this point.   Bryce’s is very low and his bad throw % is also crazy high

Bryce shouldn’t be a 60% QB and he should have low turnover % given he isn’t aggressively attacking downfield and doesn’t generate a lot of production. Bryce if he plays his style of ball well would have a very high comp% and low turnovers (that’s what he is supposed to be and isn’t).  Gunslingers, big play guys….should have a lower comp % and more turnovers than Bryce.

I disagree about the talent not making a difference. Last season, Bryce completed 77.4% of his passes to Theilen. He only completed 58.3% to Legette. The only difference is one is a better receiver / route runner than the other.

I can’t find the interview because I must not know their names.
I’ll keep looking

You would have had to sit him for the team. Locker room Didn’t that make 3 of 5 games he had imploded and put the team in a huge hole, pretty much single handedly?

I saw the podcast too

    • He’s overthrown WRs numerous times deep,I don’t think his arm strength there is a problem, def seems to be and issue in the 20-30 yard range, I don’t see a lot of outbreaking routes being completed, whether that’s due to his lack of ability to drive the ball to the outside hash or our WRs, especially XL cornering at the top of there routes. regardless of his weaknesses, the question is can a team be built around him to mask them, or can he overcome those weaknesses and adapt. I know it’s beating a dead horse, but something big is missing from Bryce’s qb play that’s leading to so many sub 200 yard passing games, all signs lead to a physical trait that’s the cause of this, wether it’s arm strength or his height
    • That was fully intentional, because something people who engage in hyperbole can't stand is to be systematically told why and how they don't have a clue. It's the prevalence of this farcical idea that everyone's opinions are valid and the more impassioned they are about them, the more valid they are. And the point of the post wasn't merely to cut the knees of the exaggerators, but to illustrate why it shouldn't seem miraculous that someone like Mayfield and Darnold could come through Charlotte and fail and then suddenly seem much more successful elsewhere, when the reality is that there's far more to being successful at that position than one's own talent. It's also why young quarterbacks like Caleb Williams and Cam Ward deserve much longer leashes to determine their long-term viability and not be written off immediately, because the circumstances surrounding them are hardly conducive to success.
    • I think at some point you top out what God gave you.  He can use leverage via his mechanics to maximize what he has and When he pays attention to it the throws are better.    IMO as a layman a lot of it is what kind of ‘headroom’ you have. The guys who are gifted don’t have to use maximum effort to get good results and stay within themselves but they have it in reserve. They can do an arm throw for substantial distance without max effort.    I think what we may be seeing with these ‘lasers’ is a throw that Bryce puts the max effort into and does his mechanics right and has his base right and it works together.    To get to the payoff here, I think his best velocity throws take dall that whereas  a naturally gifted guy doesn’t need to go full effort to get that same velocity. I have said this three or four times over the years and it never gets picked up on but the accuracy is more consistent with an easier motion and max effort can produce less predictable location. It is a baseball pitcher thing but it applies to throwing a pass too. It isn’t that you can’t make an accurate throw with full effort it is just not as reliably accurate to the same degree. Someone said something about his pro day and that is where I saw it too. He took a little extra step on the deep throws. Some call it a hitch but I don’t see it that way because I don’t see it on shorter throws. He does it trying to get distance. I saw that and just wanted no part of it at 1.1 . That is not tne characteristic of a 1.1 passer.  He should have been at best, late first  I had him second day. Of course I am no one and certainly not a pro evaluator, it is just that he was so easy to suss out. It is kind of in your face obvious.  They must have thought they could fix him. Changing a lifelong throwing motion with the footwork tied into it is not fuging easy. Anyone that had decent success with ‘their’ way and tried to change it to get more, can tell you that.
