Playoffs?!

Maybe. They sit a half game out of a playoff spot now and 1.5 games back from the division behind the Bucs. As much as I can’t stand dumb ass, Dave Canalas and Bryce Young I’m thankful to be playing meaningful games in November.

as Ricky Bobby, once said, I don’t know what to do with my hands…

We will finish 9-7 and miss the Playoffs.

I predicted 7 wins likely, 9 tops, at the start of the season.  Man it was looking rough for a minute, like not even sniffing 7 wins.

The formula for us to to win games is just so microscopic.  We have overachieved.   We are basically the Steve Wilks Panthers.  The fact we don’t have a QB is going even out down the stretch.  It’s hard to watch us and say it’s a good football team

Us finding ways to win bodes well for us in the future. At least we are building a core of players that know HOW to win at the NFL level.

Ngl, as good as I felt about us after winning yesterday, when they showed the top NFC teams on SNF, I realized what a crazy year this is.  The NFC seems uncommonly top heavy.  As of today, we aren’t anywhere near playoff positioning, which at 5-4 seems very, very weird compared to most years.  I know things will shake out further as the season goes on and it likely won’t look the same, but I have the feeling it’s one of those years that you’ll need like 11 wins to get in as a wildcard.

seems very like a very pantherish thing to rebound this year and that’s what it would take.

I wouldn't call a half game back "anywhere near playoff positioning" but do agree that the 3 wild card teams are going to have very good records. The bears and niners will probably be in that range for the 7th spot. I think eagles, Packers, Rams, Lions are locks and Seahawks probably as well that means we realistically have to win the South to get in because I don't see a way the bears or niners don't win 10 games

Not expecting it because the NFC North is loaded. Only way we make the playoffs is if we win the division

We don’t have to worry about the North right now. We just need to beat the NFC least and we have the head to head against Dallas. So long as NY and Washington stay dwelling we will be the third divisional wildcard at a minimum. If not NFC south champs if we split with Tampon Bay and win a few more we “weren’t supposed to”

What do you mean the 3rd divisional wildcard? I just simmed the season and 7th place could very well finish 12-5 that's not going to be anyone from the East or South. San fran la Seattle green bay and Detroit are all going to have very good records that leaves division winners from the East and South. We need to win 10 games to have a shot at the division

Ah poo; you’re right. I did forget that it could be as many as 3 from one division for the 7 seed.

so what the NW takes 5? And we may have a shot against tampa

    • I think we have some revisionist around it here because of all the drama around Tepper's involvement. If you pull up any scouting report from the time you'll see the same take. WalterFootball's report sums up the media's thoughts on him well: "Young has everything the NFL is looking for in a quarterback except in terms of weight and height." He was the consensus top QB of his draft and the only real question mark they had about him was whether his body could hold up in the NFL. The infamous Steph Curry comparison the Panthers latched onto came from Albert Breer. The excuses I've heard for him are more anecdotal. Bryce Young's development is the only bullet point most NFL fans have on the Panthers right now. That and the coaching turnover. If you're not actually watching our games it's easy to believe this is just a dysfunctional organization that doesn't know how to unleash this talented Heisman winner.  I've seen media and fans alike run with that narrative way more than criticizing Young outright. Whenever we win there's flocks who use it as proof that the Panthers just need to be patient.
    • So maybe 1-3 vs playoff teams, going by standings as of today. I guess that is an improvement.  We are just about improved enough to be in purgatory draft wise. It really isn’t so bad in the 1st unless you really want that top QB or maybe edge guy because there are usually plenty of good players at the top but it hurts you some as get deeper in the draft.
