Meh it’s something I’d feel confident betting on. The situation here was literally hell. It was horrible for Young’s development 

Young had guys like Hurst and Chalk who aren’t even in the league anymore. Mingo and Sanders might as well retire. The OL was a disaster. Reich’s scheme ran its course in Indy and got canned for a reason. Not in NFL anymore either. 

Houston is a complete team with real good pieces at the most important positions. Arguably best pass rushing duo in league. A top 10 corner. A top 10 WR. It’s a damn good spot for a young QB. 
 

This team gets murdered when Young doesn’t play. The beat Vegas that was it. Other than that the games weren’t even close. Meanwhile the Texans go 3-0. I mean even Stroud himself has talked about how he went to a much better situation

Slowik was a jumped up dork from PFF who got a shot to play real life madden, did some cool things his first year, then had no idea what to do when defenses adjusted (cautionary tale)

tank dell had to be shot behind the stadium like a horse

most important the Texans attempts to fix the offensive line have been the exact opposite of Carolina’s. None of their free agents or draft picks have worked out/stayed healthy. Stroud has been murdered and is having to play hero ball. Current offensive coordinator is just the latest piece of fruit to fall from the Rams coaching tree.

And with all of that strouds performance buries Bryce’s.

Exactly. They grew together.

We will never know but I am 100% confident Bryce wouldn't lead that team to the playoffs his first year. Hell, it took him 3 years to get close to Stroud's best game as a rookie.

Bryce's issues were well beyond a lack of support. Dudes footwork sucked and he needed a solid OL.

Just goes to show you how much of a difference there is between the two situations for these two QB’s who’ll forever be compared to one another

Bryce would’ve had the rookie season Stroud did if he went to Houston. Bobby Slowik looked like a genius his first year calling plays and was scheme guys open downfield. Plus Stroud has always had a true WR1 in Nico. 

Canales need to let Bryce cut it loose a lot more often. Canales can’t seem to figure out the strength of his own team. He’s made countless boneheaded roster decisions. Chuba/Rico. ETN should get Chuba’s snaps at this point. Corbett/Mays. Now Zavala over Corbett. TMac not being used in the slot more. 

Our problems stem from Canales. Not Bryce.

Our record isn’t good with Andy as starter il give you that, but do you think we beat Buffalo with Young starting?

The situation here was the doing of David Tepper. 

Frank Reich didn't want Young, he wanted Stroud. Stroud fit his QB mold better than Young. So yeah, he didn't design an offense for him. He was lied to by his boss and he didn't want to be here. Would you? It sucks for Young, but as I said, that has nothing to do with his terrible footwork, poor mechanics, his shitty drop backs, fumble issues, not bothering to look off the Atlanta safety that turned into a pick 6 by his own admission. Those were all things that had nothing to do with Frank, the OL or the rest of the team. 

And Houston wasn't a complete team. They had the 2nd pick in the draft because they sucked. They built a team and had a damn good HC that I wanted here but he refused Tepper's interview. 

Young has been protected in ways no other QB has. Dalton has been kept because he has never been a threat to take the job from Young. We signed him to a 2 year deal this offseason when it was clearly evident we needed an upgrade. For 2m more per year we could have and should have looked at Brissett if we didn't go after Howell, Russell, Winston or anyone else. Anyone else other than Dalton would have been a serious risk to take Young's starting job. If Young hadn't been the 1st overall pick, and been a day 3 pick instead, he would have been cut as a rookie. If he were on any other team as a starter, this message board would be laughing like hell at whoever was starting him for 3 years. That's why this team gets murdered when Young doesn't play. He's been sheltered from ever having to worry about his job and the QB room proves it. 

I've been extremely critical of how this team has been constructed the past 3 years, especially on offense. But this whole narrative that Bryce has always been good enough and it's everyone else's fault that he's not succeeding isn't matching up to what he's been putting on the field week in and week out.

Houston had the 2nd overall pick… but  they had one hell of an offseason. 

They hire DeMeco Ryans. Hire Bobby Slowik. Trade up for Will Anderson after drafting CJ Stroud. They also drafted Tank Dell. They sign Danielle Hunter. They sign Dalton Shultz (we tried to sign Shultz he said no and we gave the contract we offered Shultz to Hayden Hurst). The year prior they drafted Stingley and Pitre. So many of you miss the bigger picture with so much of this stuff

So if Bryce could have come to Carolina with the same advantages he had every year at Alabama he would have been successful. Good coaches. Top recruiting classes far better than the opposition. Defense able to bail him out if he has a bad game. 

Still doesnt change anything regarding footwork, mechanics, drop backs, reading the field, poor placement or any of the other myriad of issues that are still present in year 3. 

Bryce wasn't ready to be the day 1 starter. There's nothing wrong with that. Dalton was clearly the more capable QB, as evidenced by what happened in Seattle in the rain, under extreme pressure. Same players, same coach, same terrible offensive line. Two different offenses. 

When you look at Bryce and what he's done in game over the course of 3 years it's not pretty. He has moments of good, but there's been a lot more WTF. But saying Bryce would have been able to lead a team to the playoffs? Based on what we saw from him, he probably would have spent a good bit of year one on the bench holding a clipboard.

      Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.

      Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
