At this point picking up the option is without question. People are going to have to accept that as a starting point. That however should NOT preclude the decision makers from cutting Andy Dalton and bringing in a younger more capable veteran backup and adding a QB in the upcoming draft. This is still a young roster. They can compete but they aren't ready for a playoff run yet. We aren't one piece away yet. Retool and reload in the offseason with actual fallback plans in the QB room and let them duke it out in camp and preseason. That's the logic path forward.

There are likely to be former starting QB's, veteran backup QB's, broken toy QB's and draft QB's available.

We aren't going to be bereft of options. Perhaps lacking in a ton of quality options but lacking in quality options is also the current state of our QB roster at the moment.

I never thought these words would leave me mouth(fingers?) but, fug it, trade a 3rd or something similar to the 49ers for Mac Jones. He'll never be a franchise caliber QB but if people want a game managing QB, that's a far better option on the table than Bryce Young.

You would only pick up the option if you think he could possibly develop into a starter, which he cannot.  Keeping him around in '26 and '27 will just complicate the qb room. I absolutely agree Dalton must be cut.  I think Tepper and Morgan pick up the option shortly after the season though.

You don't have to convince me. I think not picking up the option should absolutely be firmly on the table but I just do not see Tepper and Morgan doing that for previously stated reasons. Therefore I'm not going to bother entertaining the notion. Just hoping we actually get real viable competition. If that doesn't happen at the minimum then my perception of that is complete and utter professional malpractice.

If they pick up the option there is no way they bring in competition.  They are committing to him for 2 more years.  I am still going back and forth with them cutting andy and if they will actually even do that.
