Did Trey Lance ever get a real shot?

Trey Lance or Jack Plummer? Seriously. Is this even a question? If he has a legitimate chance at the starting job, bring him in and let him throw. If it's Bryce's with no one else having even a chance baring another "high ankle sprain", let him go somewhere else.

I am fine bringing in Trey Lance.

I am not fine bringing in Trey Lance with the expectation that he starts.

Bring him in as a backup or bring him in to compete. Those scenarios are fine.

I just meant allow legitimate competition in camp. If there's going to be no legitimate competition, don't even bother wasting his time or anyone else's.

Best I heard this is how the 49ers deal went down. He's been very quiet, but Mike Shanahan works for the 49ers and he stills puts in HC hours. He's the juice and has plenty of power to consult them on all football decisions. He watched all the practice tape for one week and told everyone Brock Purdy was the clear best QB on the roster. At the time Jimmy garoppolo was there and they just spent three 1st on Trey Lance, but Purdy was the best according to the brain power there.......Guess what he was 100% right.

Lance was too green, but my god did have some big potential. Then he got injuries and that was a huge setback to someone that needed the most reps to get better. Purdy earned the job(fight me) and saved Lynchs job, made it where Lance was not the in the plans. Dallas gave away a 4th when dak was still on the team and needing money. He's still young and everyone doesn't learn at the same rate. The NFL does not wait, they will move on to the next corp of off-charts potential QBs....

If you bump threads form that period, you will see me at times saying Id draft Lance 1st over-all, yes even above Trevor Lawrence. He could not beat out Purdy or even Jimmy or make Dallas double think about Dak. No way hes Herbo level either, but given the bar is so low.....like limbo bar in hell low, of course he could be better than BY and earn one of the 32 starter jobs.....No herbo, dak or even purdy here, but just need around the 14th best and that would be be just fine right now for this young team....

We should be looking for at least 2 QBs for the active roster next season.

I would take 20th best and be just fine.

He has to come with a prove it deal and he should have to beat out the competition. Either he has matured and put in the work or he hasn't. A guy who was worked in the leuge, still 25 and has huge upside is probably better odds than a 3rd to 5th round pick...if he isn't completely a lost cause already

Lance had one season of starting experience at a D-II school and got hurt at the start of both seasons as a 49er.

No, he really never got a real shot.  Trey needed reps...a sh1t ton of them considering how green he was.  It never materialized.   He's been in the League four years now and in multiple offensive systems.  At this point he's ready to compete for a starting job.  Nobody in their right mind would hand him the starting job, but as someone already alluded to, like Delhomme, all he's looking for is the opportunity to compete for QB1.  Delhomme left the Saints because he was firmly entrenched as QB2.  Jake came here because we told him he could compete with Rodney Peete for QB1.  That was enough to bring him to Charlotte, even though Rodney beat out Jake in camp.

Herbert isn't going anywhere, so Trey is looking for a chance. That chance shouldn't be that steep of a contract and easy to get out of if need be.

He had a shot. He lost it. He had a second chance with Dallas, looked awful, and threw five interceptions in a preseason game.

This would be his fourth chance. No.

You know who else looked like crap? Sam Darold, who is right now the odds on favorite for NFL MVP.

This is a buy low with a potentially huge reward situation IMO. The polar opposite of the Bryce gamble.
There could be a Kurt Warner sized payoff and considering where we are, you have to look at this. And anything like it elsewhere if it exists.

LOL at people thinking Trey Lance is the answer.

No kidding. It is almost as funny as pimping Bryce for three years.

I swear I don’t know why you think you have room to make fun of other people for their QB opinions after publishing yours for all to see.
