And a negative scoring differential. We have scored 207 points for, and 249 given up.

Tells me a lot about this team, some of it good more of it bad.

My questions are why do we think that is? 
 

And what can we do differently to start winning more games by a wider margin. It does feel like we are much more competitive this season and for that I am grateful. We are going in the right direction. But what pieces could we add to help us be more well rounded. What can we do to score more points on a regular basis? All speculative obviously, and more future thinking than now because we can’t change what’s already happening.

But these numbers worry me a bit for our playoff hopes, because the NFC North, and the West have some pretty good teams and I could see both of those divisions sending two teams to the playoffs.

Just thought that was an interesting number when it caught my eye. What say you, you ole miserable panther fans?

I know it can’t be done, but taking out the NE and BUF games turn that differential around. Those two games alone count for a -60 point differential for the Panthers.
 

The only other loss that was a bit out of hand was the Jacksonville game, which had a -16 differential, and the first ATL win was a +30. All in all, a few lopsided games but most have been close.
 

All it says is the Panthers aren’t dominating teams when they win, and they have a complete dud of a loss every few games.

I’ve said it before. Panthers are neither a good nor a bad team… which is a GIANT leap forward from 2 seasons ago. 

They’ve gone from an embarrassing, unwatchable curb stomping on an every week basis to glimpses of competitive football and a team with actual, legit talent. Ickey, Hunt, Chuba, Rico, Tet, Coker, Moton, Lewis, Brown, Moehrig, and Horn would be legit starters on most NFL teams, so half of our starting roster. I’d dare call the special teams good this season.  In 2 years that’s incredible. With 2 more offseasons and drafts like this last one, even a journeyman QB takes this team to the playoffs. Let them kill it on the first 2 picks in the next couple drafts and find a late round gem. That’s huge. 

I don’t think the current team is as good as its record, but I’m enjoying the ride.

Parity in the league is out of whack. I think there are a lot more bad teams than there used to be. 
They play each other and the games are close. They play upper echelon and the difference shows up on the scoreboard in the form of blowouts on occasion. 
As to the OP we have to try and play those better teams close and sometimes we can. It means making a it low scoring game.

Basically if you want more points the QB has to play better. Some weeks he doesn’t play very well.

On 1 hand that can be a sign of growth and a team learning to find a way to win.

Negatively, it is a team getting fortunate bounces, and is typically not sustainable. See this year's Chiefs compared to last season.

The sign of growth is the Panthers

The fortunate bounces is the Bears (+ 16 turnover differential which is unheard of )

      I did a for instance quick look at the Green Bay game, stats and PFF.  102 yards passing, he graded 42 decimal point something I just glanced at it.   Probably not overrating him, it was one of the lowest scores for the team.   So I wasn’t being real accurate relative to that particular game with the over grading comment. But I don’t know, I still think there are probably other examples like what you cited where he did get some generous grades.

      I’m trying to see the light at the end of the playcalling tunnel, but don’t know if it will be there. If Canales passes off playcalling duties, I don’t see how he doesn’t give it to Idzik. I truthfully don’t know what Idzik does nor if he’s up for the job. I don’t see a world where Canales passes him over unless he’s instructed to, and I don’t get that feeling after making the playoffs in year two.  I also don’t want Canales calling plays anymore. I can’t tell if BY is holding him back or if his playbook is that predictable, vanilla and determined to create a new style of offense that is dominated by screens and checkdowns.   My gut says you plug 20 of 32 other starting NFL QBs not named Bryce in and this offense moves more. It’s wild because the times that Young does uncork it a bit, he has had more success….sans his signature out route lobs that have the zip of a paper airplane.
