Todd Wash as DC…hmmm

Christmas Eve Smile GIF

He was the Jags DC under Gus Bradley during their "Sacksonville" years.

Would love to have Bradley too honestly, and he's certainly connected with Canales. But he's got an AHC title right now in San Fran so he likely couldn't be interviewed as a DC.

I probably prefer Cooley but both would be solid options

Wash has been coaching way longer including five years as the Jaguars DC. Cooley's only been coaching at the pro level since 2020.

(I know that doesn't always mean a coach is better but I'm more comfortable that way)

Mind you, Wash has typically run a 4-3 scheme so it might mean some adjustments.

Hot take.  Eviro is definitely a bad dc...however I don't think he'll be a terrible hc.  I think he is a commanding presence and he can be an effective hc as long as he let's his coordinators handle things.

Hard to say. It's a different skill set.

Some of the league's greatest coordinators were sh-t head coaches. Likewise, some mid coordinators became great HCs..

Really hard to predict...

I would be shocked if Idzik got a shot till he started calling plays at the very least

He wouldn't be the first.

I doubt either of them get head coaching jobs.  Evero has the best chance, but barring a deep playoff run, I really doubt it.  I think he walks and takes another DC job next year.

Evero is no longer under contract once this season ends.

Basically, whether he gets a head coaching job or not, we likely have a different DC next year.

Evero is on the last year of his deal and he's not going to resign here. I think he's gonna try and interview for a HC job and if he doesn't get 1 then I can almost guarantee he's the Rams DC next year taking over for Chris Shula who's almost certainly gonna get a HC job this cycle. The Rams tried to hire him away in 2024, but we blocked the interview, so I have no doubt they are gonna go for him again. The Rams give him a better chance of getting a head coaching job, something Evero has made it known that he wants and his previous relationship with Mcvay and the front office there make it all but certain.

With most of the defensive staff being Evero guys I think we see a pretty big turnover on the defensive coaching staff this offseason as most of them will follow Evero to LA.

I'd look for Canales to bring in someone he's worked with in Seattle like Kris Richard or Gus Bradly or he could just promote Todd Wash to DC.

    • It’ll be interesting to see how the board falls I completely agree with you on TE for us The safety from Oregon would be the cherry on top for Evero’s defense/scheme.  If a OL’men is there that you love it would be very hard to pass up. This fan base seems to just see Walker as a stop gap but I wouldn’t be so sure. He’s the same age as Ekwonu. He’s had a much more impressive career arc/progression than Icky has. He’s the better pass protector. As far as I see it if Walker has a good year I’d bring him back over Icky. Ekwonu isn’t some elite franchise LT. Playing next to Lewis is going to be great for Walker much like it has been for Icky. We definitely need to get younger/cheaper on the OL though so for this reason alone it’s still top of my list come round 1 if board falls this way  Could also use another corner with Mike Jackson’s deal up after this season and needing a nickel but Corey Thornton looked really good in that role in the limited time we got to see him. However he’s coming off an achillies injury and you never know with those.  Then as mentioned above we do still have a need at WR. As far as “weapons” go it’s kind of a 2 man show with Tmac and Coker and neither is a burner. If Jordan Tyson is there at 19 and we can have a young WR group locked up for cheap that’s a huge advantage cap wise  And don’t forget linebacker. That clip in Devin’s Lloyd blueprint they used from Evero saying they need more intelligence there could’ve been left out for Wallace’s sake but it’s true. Wallace is lost in coverage. Pair a smart linebacker with Lloyd and that’s a group with Wallace and Cherelus being depth
    • The fact that this is even a discussion is a testament of the level of front office badassery that's going on.
    • Not always. LT was for the Giants. So was Ray Lewis. Von Miller was moreso than Manning his final year in the season that shall not be named. It's usually the QB, but not always.
