Dan's been part of 5 drafts, 3 as an assistant to the "last guy" and 2 leading the way. The first 3 with Fitts were pretty ugly overall. Last year's draft, his 1st, isn't looking hot. This year looking like a winner.

He's been part of some bad FA decisions, some good ones, and right now we have the most expensive OL in the league with our franchise LT on the last year of his rookie deal. That's going to get even more expensive.

I'm not ready to crown him as a GM god quite yet because one good year isn't making up for all the bad that's been done the previous 4.

Fitterer made the final decision.  You can't pin Fitterer's regime on Morgan.  We wouldn't have hired him if he had the same outlook.  It is very clear that Morgan is not Fitterer.

Also all GMs lie about that poo in retrospect.

bill polian famously said in an interview years later he had a first round grade on tom Brady. Must have killed him to take G Matt Johnson with their last pick in the fifth but when you’ve got a guy like that there, regardless of the first round qb you could groom andp flip, you gotta take him.

And you can't say how much Dan did or didn't influence decisions that were made. All I can look at is what's happened while he's been part of the organization. And there's no way to know why he was hired either. You're making a lot of assumptions. From what I've seen from Morgan as GM alone, 1 horrible draft and FA period, one good looking draft and FA period. Not going to crown him a GM god after a year. Sorry.

You're never going to nail every pick.  For a while there at the beginning of the season it looked like Princely was going to be better than Scourton. Just about every pick as produced somehow this season and that's rare.  Not to mention the FA in Coker and Thourton.

100%.  Add in Fitzgerald to the UDFAs.

Nobody is crowning him. They are saying he had a good draft. You are making a classic strawman argument.

“You can’t say how much Dan did or didn’t influence decisions that were made,” and “You’re making a lot of assumptions,” both said while disregarding your own assumptions to imply that Dan must have had a lot of influence in the decisions that then-GM, Scott Fiterer, made. Can’t make this stuff up.

That isn’t a strawman argument

The OP in this thread stated Morgan had done a bang up job in the draft and free agency.

SmokinWithWilly’s quoted a post which simply said Morgan is not Fitterer. SWW concluded with, “Not going to crown him a GM god after a year.”

That’s a classic strawman, as no one said that Dan Morgan is, or should be considered, a GM god.

People heard scourtons name yesterday so the whole draft is good again

Who intercepted Baker at the end of the game?  Did you notice that Jackson was playing NT?   I was under the impression that Tmac caught a few balls.  I think Evans caught a pass and broke a tackle.  Hmmm.  Etienne had a solid return or two.  Our kicker was clutch.  While he made a stupid mistake, Princely played a role. Jimmy Horn had a sweet reverse for a big play.   Not sure what about that you missed.   When I see our rookies catching passes, interecepting passing, running or returning the ball effectively, and kicking the game winning FG--I think, "Yep. That's Scourton for ya!"
