The End of the Road for XL

Recommended Posts

What's been most disappointing is that he's not even a dangerous guy in space with the ball in his hands. I figured worst case scenario he could be a decent gadget player to get the ball in his hands on screens and scheme up YAC opportunities but he doesn't have any vision as a runner and for a guy with his measurables he seems to lack suddenness and goes down easy. Just a straight up bust.

If we could swing a Mingo - like trade for him and get a 4th round pick it might be a heist.

We definitely could use a much better 2nd/3rd option at WR. A dude like Tedd Ginn Jr or Jameison Williams basically,  someone with crazy burners that opens up the offense.

We do have Jimmy Horn but Canales doesn't utilize him enough.

Young underthrows Coker and T-Mac, what use does he have for a burner?!

So aside from the blatant NFL rigged bullshit, it does appear that the XL experiment is basically over.  I noticed XL was not on the field often after that first drive with a drop that while a hard catch, was catchable and needed.

XL's Snap couunt was down to 31%, just 16 offensive snaps.  Coker was at 92%, and Tmac was 88%.  For reference, Jimmy Horn Jr had the same amount of snaps as XL and coincidentally bryce had one of his better passing days of the season (Which was lost in the absolute clusterfug that was the officiating and terrible run game yesterday).

Also he was relegated to doing special teams...Ya know what happened to Chuba Hubbard when he was essentially benched earlier this season.

I think the XL Experiment is over.  I think its pretty obvious that in the offseason they will try to bring in another receiving option.  I dont think he'll be cut, but if a team comes offering a 4th or MAYYBE a 3rd for him, he's gonna be shipped in the offseason, so yea we might be stuck with Bryce for better or worse for a bit longer, but the Legette Project is pretty much done.

I bet Legette's agent is kicking himself that he didn't sit down with Tepper pre-Draft and wow him with his table etiquette.

Seems to get you a 5 year contract, regardless of play on the field...

He needs a punt returner to work a screen/dump game for him.  That ain’t Horn.  He needs some physical quick runner.

and Bryce and Canales need an offseason to figure out how to setup and work a good screen game.

I mean what’s the thought process behind bailing on XL but hanging on to Bryce?

XL is a decent blocker at least and Dave doesn’t use traditional x, y, z wr setups. He just wants to keep rotating fresh bodies.

Because propping up Mr. Big Time Throw means nobody else has any room for error.  XL is terrible, but Bryce defenders can't afford to be fair to him.

It would be like if Ian Thomas had a fan club that berated every other player on the offense every week.  I don't get it.

Yeah, I mean in a world where Bryce Young is starting for a 4th season…..

why does XL not get more time lol.  XL’s family is going to start making accounts and talking about his 4th quarter production!  He gets going late when it matters!  Ball placement and off target throws are the real culprit!

besides the drops, XL wasn't even this bad his rookie year

Coming into this season you could tell it was off.  Way way too much media fluff on XL. Dude already became a NFL personality without the play.  And when he got booted in his one preseason game I thought that was the red flag….NFL is an above the shoulders game and it was over before the season started this year.

people should revisit some of this preseason defenses of XL and Dave.  It was all there IMO.  The red flag was there on Dave not taking playcalling serious like a bad playcaller needed.  XL’s head wasn’t in the game.  And the team knew Bryce couldn’t handle much.   Preseason been doing crazy talking ever since Rhule’s year 2.   It’s not always talking loudly but some years it screams at you

This is why you don’t reach for need.. Ladd was there but they were ok with AT as slot (lol) Cooper and Frazier were light years better prospects than XL as well. They had tunnel vision on an X WR.

He’s been so bad that I couldn’t see a team offering anything more than a 6th for XL. Maybe a 5th if we’re lucky. It’s time to move on. We’re a worse team when he’s on the field. Only silver lining to think of is maybe the XL and Brooks pick was a necessary evil for Dan Morgan to change his draft strategy, which seemed to improve last draft even though wasting an entire draft in 2024  is inexcusable. Having Cooper Dejean would’ve been fun. Instead the well run franchises continue to pull the right strings while we look like incompetent clowns.

Well, we have never ever been any good when we have looked bad in preseason. It has been a reliable predictor of how the team will be heading into the season.

That said, many folks will brush it off, invoke Iverson's famous line about practice, and instead say well no team gameplans, and it's all vanilla coverages and har har we are going to the Superbowl.

From what I can see, XL is a lazy route runner.

    • You bring up a good point on the stability part and i would agree that probably will factor into it. But yes, Tepper does have a strong influence on who stays/goes but I still believe ultimately it'is Morgan, Tilis and Canales who will decide.
    • I can always count on yout to put things so delicately lol. I'm still not sold on the fact that Tepper will make them keep him if they don't see him as a long term answer.
    • holy poo... this thread inspired me to keep trying to guess passwords to various alts I've created over the years and I finally got in! I pretty much accepted my fate as a lurker for the last several months because I could not remember my password. I didn't realize that new users couldn't join either, that explains things. I have been around for years under several different monikers, through the good and bad. I too always find myself coming back here even with all of the new social media options for Panther fan engagement. It's simply nostalgic.   I do get extremely annoyed with the same 5-10 posters shitting on Bryce and complaining about everything. It's unfortunate that half of them are mods and that nobody new can join because now I pretty much just come on here and see Bryce / Panther slander. There is barely any positivity to be had. We all watch this team and hang on this forum for entertainment purposes only. We have no control or say in anything. I used to be such a crazy ass fan that would argue with strangers about Cam newton on the internet and at games. Now, as a father of 3, a business owner and someone with way gnarlier life problems - I like to watch football and talk about football as an escape. Not to bitch more. I really like the direction of the team and will root anyone in a Panthers jersey. I live down the street from the Rams practice facility, Matthew Stafford is currently coaching his daughters flag football team in the same program I coach my sons. I have two highly ranked Rams staff members sons on my team. The way we beat them and had them on the ropes in the playoffs has me feeling amazing, and you would think we have the next great thing in Bryce with the way they all speak of him. I'm gonna ride that high and be a delusional fan, I hope that huddle can stick around or get fixed and perhaps I will get back to posting more now that I can log in again. I will do my best to not get banned. Keep Pounding!
