Jeremy Fowler: Panthers going after Odafe Oweh, Devin Lloyd, Tremaine Edmunds, Kenny Pickett

Recommended Posts

I think there's a reason why we don't get the best free agents. We usually don't have a ton of cap to work with and other teams have way more. So we lose bidding wars to other teams and we have to settle for middling talent.

Some of you guys are getting your hopes up for top names every year.

Well next year would be the year to take a swing, dont even need a top 5 pick. Julian Sayin, Arch Manning, Dante Moore, Lanorris Sellers, CJ Carr, and Jayden Maivia. You'll literally have guys Like John Mateer,  Brenden Sorsby, Sam Leavitt, Josh Hoover, Darian Menseah and Drew Mesetmecker going day 2 at this rate. I'm sure 4-5 of these guys will fall off but sure there will be 2-3 dark horses come out too. QB class is loaded.

Why is everyone just assuming Arch is coming out after the 26 football season. Doesn't he have another year of eligibility left after that??

I still remember when most people here assumed Andrew Luck was coming out after the 10' season and he went back to school.

Every time I've watched Sellers he's been god awful. I don't see it unless he transfers or does something significantly different to elevate his game.

No thanks on Jaelan Phillips. Good player, long long history of serious injuries back to his college days. At one point he had basically medically retired while at UCLA before transferring and then living up to his 5 star rating coming out of high school. Don’t want to throw huge DE money on a guy that’s banged up constantly.

He's a great player, but the Eagles want him back so I'd be shocked if he came here.

Hoover and Mensah have gone to top-tier situations. They'll be first round picks.

Sellers might be a third day pick.

Why does anyone assume Arch Manning is going to even be that good of a prospect? He was awful for a good chunk of last season and if it wasn't for his last name he'd be projected to go in the 4th-5th round at best.

This. Watching the media go right back to proclaiming him the favorite for the Heisman and #1 overall pick next year is wild.

Yeah there's too much smoke around Lloyd with us.  If it goes down, I just hope it's nothing insane that makes us need to restructure in the future.  He's getting Roquan/Warner money, inflation adjusted.  He's getting like $21.5 mil/yr.  Get ready for that type of contract with him to beat others out.

I just think some of these guys in the 9-15 mil range are of similar value (Edmunds, Chenal, Okereke, etc.).  But if it happens, it happens.

Agree. They don't need to go for the best FA at any position right now. Let's just get NFL average on the roster then draft our super stars.

I don't want to be a doomer/pile-on, but Lloyd and Oweh are the top of the market at both of their positions, meaning it will be an overpay for us, and they have decent red flags.

Oweh is a primary pass rusher and Lloyd considered a bust at the end of 2024.  It's A LOT of money to throw around for those two.

Oweh could be nice for us at 27 y/o while we continue to hunt for a real lethal pass rushing threat and/or develop Scourton/Princely.  Similar to how Denver had Allen while developing Cooper and Bonnito.

But you overpay for him at the top of his market, I don't think we need to stretch for Lloyd.

Will say, if we pull it off, Lloyd & CJ Allen could work.

Oweh and Scourton with Princely as our primary SPR is nice as well.  I see what they're trying to do.

Yeah I am not beating the drum for Lloyd. I was beating it for a quality vet, and a top rated draftee, with a higher ceiling.

1st we aren’t getting another Luke. Likely not even another Morgan. But it won’t take that to drastically improve our ILB play. It has been worse than bad.

I would invest more in the draft pick.

    • Two things: 1. Dr. Eric Eager is central to the draft process 2. I know that it was edited, but we didn't hear "Thieneman" one time, not even before the Vikings pick.
    • Why would he sign here as a guard when surely someone would sign him as a tackle?  Assuming he is healthy
    • Went back to watching the highlights. With a sober mind haha. Here is what I saw.    freddie needs to make 1 of those but the rest aren’t on him.    Slavin was BBBBAAAD again last night. Not sure what is going on with these game one Slavin gafs.    miller was ok but had his worst game in the playoffs so far.    nikishin was no good. His his awful turnover led to the first goal at the end of the first period that just can’t happen. ghost was beat like a drum multiple times last night, including the go-ahead goal at the end jarivs wont shoot. He is either hurt or he is struggling mentally and I think it could be a combination of both. He passed up a wide open net on the power-play only to pass it to no one and cleared it himself.     Svech played well. He is getting zero help on that line.    aho. Worst game as a pro. I mean that. He won’t shoot it, passes go to no one and turns it over repeatedly.  He did exactly what they did against Montreal game one when Miller had a turnover. Aho left his man to go help and left the golden Knight player wide open in front of Freddie.  If I was Rod, you Tell Aho when that thing hits your stick you fire it  someone needs to sit him down just him in a room and ask what’s going on. He seems soft, timid and has zero fire.   canes could have won that game   There isn’t a gap between these two teams  they are dead even   Carter Hart’s gonna get lit up in this series. We can beat that guy. the consensus last night was our defense played horrible and our stars won’t score.  clean the defense up. Tell the top line to shoot it everything and we’ll win tomorrow night.   Possibly convincingly.
