Daniel Jeremiah mocks KC Concepcion to the #Panthers ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Recommended Posts

I had just watched the Lions/Vikings/Panthers stretch when I cameย here.

ย

What I didnโ€™t like about that mock? Mina Kimes gave Jeremiah 2 choices for each pick. Only two. Felt very arbitrary.ย

I mean, dude, come on. There is a huge difference between the two in only one word: explosiveness.

From what I've read, Concepcion is a very explosive, twitchy, dynamic receiver. His problem has been some drops over his career; some he has to own, others have been questionable throws by the QB.ย

Greg Cosell said that Concepcion may be the most dynamic receiver in the draft. Steve Smith is generally positive. There have been other, perhaps less known, analysts who are more critical, but even they love everything he does before and after the catch. Concepcion gets open!

Is Concepcion perfect? No. But he does have room for growth. He's much better than a nondescript Philly Brown.

Of all the receivers to compare Concepcion to, that was certainly a choice...

Could Concepcion be a bust? Sure. Is he anything like Philly Brown? Outside of also playing WR, no.

If Concepcion is nothing else, he's a hard guy to project, and profiles may appear to be all over the place in some respects, but he is probably the most purely explosive receiver in the draft. Based upon potential, he will be a steal for someone if he lives up to it.

I donโ€™t think heโ€™s worth a first round pick, heโ€™s a slot WR. He doesnโ€™t have home runย ย speed. And heโ€™s not physical enough to break a lot of tackles or big enough to make contested catches over DBs

I am not trying to be mean, but Concepcion has a pretty severe stutter.ย  It is a serious problem.ย  But with XL on the roster, let's hope they never become captains.ย  the coin toss would take 30 minutes.ย ย

ย

OK, I am punishing myself by suspending all MHS posts for 2 hours.ย  I was wrong.

Cosell's bit about the Z WR makes a strong case for Concepcion's skill set here.ย  It makes sense.

According to what I've seen and read, he's strong. He's a dawg. You appear to be going only by size. I mean, there are some notable receivers near his same size. He's certainly not the biggest, but isn't the smallest either. Some of y'all seem to have the attitude that slot receivers aren't worth a first. I do not believe that. Moreover, Concepcion can probably play on the outside or "end up on the outside." Wherever he plays, his "superpower" is his dynamicism with the ball in his hands.

    • I liked him when he was at Michigan because I'm a Wolverine homer. After that...ย
    • Hello, soccer fans [crickets, tumbleweed flies by]. The World Cup kicks off in less than 2 weeks and, well, ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธUSA USA USA๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ and all. We beat Senegal 3-2 yesterday in a tune-up friendly at BoA, with Christian Pulisic finally entering the scoring column.ย  How will we do in the World Cup once our tournament kicks off on the 12th? Well, there are 48 teams (assuming Iran is there) and it feels like one of two thing happens: we get grouped for the first time since '98, or we make it to the Round of 16 for the third time in the last four World Cups. I tried out the lottery for an Atlanta game and struck out, so yesterday was as World Cup as I'll get for in-person ($285/ticket for like Norway vs $39/ticket for USMNT right beforehand was a layup).ย  The U.S. has a travel-heavy schedule in group play, playing in LA, Seattle and LA. Real road warrior mentality being built. Glad the east coast gets worse kickoff times for a NA World Cup than a Qatar World Cup.
    • Well, that's the thing. Drafting players only for their physical measurables as you are suggesting only really happened during 2024, and X unfortunately has become the poster child for that. To be clear, it's not necessarily about drafting RAS over skill, but RAS over NFL-readiness and/or a solid body of work. Lots of players show skill in college, but those skills don't necessarily translate to the NFL for a multitude of reasons. But, getting back to the main point, to be clear, I believe that our FO is still enamored with physical gifts (who wouldn't be?), but now they're letting Dr. Eric Eager's proprietary system--his "secret sauce" prioritize the players that the Panthers draft, and it seems like it weighs not only a solid body of work, relative to a college career of course, but consistent gradual improvement as evidenced by production pretty highly.ย
