Round 1: The Carolina Panthers select OT Monroe Freeling (Georgia)

I had become more and more on board with Thienemen, but there's safeties in the 2nd and 3rd with more value than the OTs that will be left IMO.

Good value pick, smart for the cap, and gives us some OL flexibility and future in uncertain times.

Best case, he's our franchise LT, Ickey comes back and can take over for Moton at RT, and we don't really miss a beat. This might not be the immediate impact pick, but it's the highest potential one we could've made.

Such a good pick. I think we just drafted our new Jordan Gross. And no not just because hes white. Either way offensive line is so important, and Im so happy to beef it up

this gave me a great chuckle right here cuz I agree 🤣

Maybe not the pick some wanted but the pick we needed.  As many mentioned here our ot situation is a mess this year and a disaster next year. Icky is out this year and may never return to form. Moton is getting old and the mileage is starting to tax him. And the gb ot is a 1 year rental. We needed a high upside ot and those are hard to get after the first round.

I'm also glad it wasn't a wr or Sadiq so that's another check in the win column for me.

I did not think they would do it--with Walker and Moton and Dave Canales comments about seeing the field immediately. There could be something we do not know, but this also has the potential to make us better at 2 spots--Ickey was average at best--could be an elite G.  Freeling can become an elite LT.  If we get cap room by releasing Hunt in 2027, move Ickey to RG....we got 2 positions covered as we become more cost effective--I get it.  I just did not think they would do it.

Im seeing posts here say he can play LT but from what Im reading, he is a raw RT. What is the assumption he would be good at LT coming from?

He played LT for Georgia all of last year...

Not as much playing time as the other tackles.

Also, he excels in pass pro but needs some work in the run game.  Time in an NFL weight room will help remedy that.

I’m generally fine with bolstering the lines. But at 19, and as many holes as this team has, NOT taking a sure fire starter is a head scratcher.

What holes does this team have besides QB?

Morgan and co have raised the floor in the last couple of years. Yes you could improve every position, but we don't have replacement level guys starting anymore.

Then why did he last till 19?

Honestly? 'Cos he's a project.

Go watch his cut ups - he's on the floor and lunging a lot. He's winning on pure athleticism.

Sky is the limit, but he really needs to be brought along slowly and have his technique completely reworked. Thankfully we have a good OLine coach.
