Arranging prospects by pro-readiness

Interesting read: NFL Prospects Tier Ranking

The best of the best, per Wes Bunting (Panther prospects highlighted)

Tier 1 (Will become one of the premiere players at his position in the league)

WR A.J. Green: Georgia

CB Patrick Peterson: LSU

WR Julio Jones: Alabama

Tier 2 (Starts first game as a pro, a featured player on an NFL team)

DE Robert Quinn: North Carolina

OLB Von Miller: Texas A&M

DT Nick Fairley: Auburn

Tier 3 (Starts during his rookie year, becomes a featured player on a team)

RB Mark Ingram: Alabama

DE Aldon Smith: Missouri

OT Tyron Smith: USC

DE Da’Quan Bowers: Clemson

DL Cameron Jordan: Cal

Where the rest of the Panthers top eight prospects fall in Bunting's heirarchy:

Marcell Dareus: Tier 4 (Becomes a quality NFL starter during his rookie year)

Blaine Gabbert: Tier 6 (Contributes first year, eventually will be expected to assume a starting role)

Cam Newton and Ryan Mallett: Tier 8 (Gifted talent with inconsistencies, boom or bust pick)

So I guess Aaron Rodgers would be in the tier six or later group. Even Brady would be in tier 3.

Given that most of the first picks in the draft have gone to quarterbacks who are not tier 1 players, that criteria seems rather worthless in my opinion. Playing in their rookie year is a relatively new concept for quarterbacks unless the team is awful. Seems a very short sighted way to decide who to pick no 1 in the draft.

Bunting's on that crack pipe if he thinks Fairley is more pro-ready than Dareus.

I don't get that either :nonod:

Throw in Peterson and AJ Green as Tier 1 prospects despite low Wonderlic scoring while Dareus - who scored higher if I recall correctly - is supposed to have a tougher transition at a position that's more instinct and not as cerebral as the other two?

There's a lot I can agree with on this, but some I can't, and that's a big one.

His definition of NFL ready is mixed up and that term has grown annoying

Wasting the time to be that granular about this stuff just shows that people will read and debate just about anything regarding the draft.

To me Darius is the most pro ready .
