I really think it was just her sacrificing herself so that Jon might live. I can't wait until Sunday. I hope they don't string this along for several episodes.

at the longest, it may be stretched to Ep4.  I think it would be wicked cool to have the big reveals/moments happen during a different part of the season this year like episodes 3-5.

Was just reading pretty good dissection of season premier....

Basically we will either see Jon Snow rise or a massive blood bath between Wildlings and Night Watch.  Melisandre is the only hope to stop it.  Also, Jon Snow is the only remaining good character in Westeros...  If he gets killed off...  There basically no good characters left (lol).

Doubt I'm doing any Earth-shattering deducing here and this is probably already widely on the Interwebs but to me where I stand...aka, book people, is this theory the "right" one to you all?

1. Melisandre is the Red Priestess. Lord of the Light R'hllor follower. The Fire God, fire symbols, yada yada.

2. Jon Snow is dead. But the R+L = J theory gives him some interesting fire attributes ('sup, Dany walking out of fire "reborn")

3. Mel can bring people back to life. Mel (to me) is going to sacrifice herself (helluva lot of power to sacrifice and do the job).

4. Mel is also from Asshai, which to me, sounds a lot like a figure in her religion prophesied to be reborn to defeat darkness and bring light back to the world. Azor Ahai, who will be reborn as the Prince yada yada. Mel thought it was Stannis, it's actually Jon because R+L. Jon is brought back, but not as Jon Snow...instead of Azor Ahai/The Prince That Was Promised/Jon Stark-Targaryen who will get Lightbringer (already has it?) and be the leader of the light side who fugs up the White Walkers/Others/Great Other.

Yes?

But why would she have to sacrifice herself?  Makes no sense considering that all Thoros had to do was rub dirt on Dondarion's half severed torso to bring him back to life.

In the books, if I recall correctly, Thoros said that each time he brings Dondarion back, there's a price to pay. The assumption is that it's Dondarion that pays it, but it would make sense that Thoros loses some of his life, too. I think he even said something along the lines of "I'm not the man I used to be" when the Hound brought up his exploits with the flaming sword.

That could also be in reference to the fact he was a drunkard before he brought Beric back the first time and that renewed his faith. I don't think Thoros pays any price. Just Beric because every time he is brought back he loses a piece of himself.

    • Gustavsson would be insane. I think we would have to break the bank to afford that move. Which, I don't think is necessarily a bad idea. Ultimately, Freddie isn't likely to be around more than a couple of seasons more. We can all agree that unless they have a fleet of sports psychologists working on Kochetkov, he will never be capable of getting his head on straight enough to compete.
    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
