So what do we need to be worried about?

This is a jinx thread, anything spoken in here could blow up in our faces.

no, this thread confronts a reoccuring trend. jixing would be commenting on something that hasn't happened......and then finally does after being brought up. We are safe.

honestly I'm worried about the offense. Our O line looked bad IMO the last few games of the season and it seemed that we never did good in the second half. What if Steve Smith gets hurt or regresses, do we have a WR that could produce as a #1? If we loose Shockey and Olsen gets hurt how will our offense look?

The Defense will get better because Ron Rivera has historically improved the Defense after the second year. We will probably have 3 starters back from IR. I think our DTs will get better as well as our secondary with a full off season to learn the defense.

Special Teams improved as the season went by, Pilares is the answer to being the return man IMO.

I'm worried about the offense regressing.....because that is the type of thing that has happened about every year for this franchise. Like you said, it's always the aspect you thought was strong that lets us down.

No worries about retrogression. Foxball Doesn't Live Here. Chud and Rivera got yo back!

No, we would be screwed. I don't think Carolina is going to find his replacement until they are literally FORCED to find one.

Admittedly, I did believe we would make the playoffs in 2010.

But I didn't think we had a shot in '09 with Delhomme at QB. Sad thing is, had we started Moore around the Buffalo/Jets game, we could have gotten in at 9-7 or 10-6 (Delhomme single-handedly lost us those games and Moore isn't that bad).

I'm worried about cam getting in trouble off the field. Before you laugh or flame me; it would take one little 105 in a 45 MPH zone or something slightly more serious for the media to be on it like flies on poo.

I want things nice and quiet on the Cam front like they have been. Once we're four years into this career/marriage I'll no longer worry. But it hasn't been long enough and if he gets into a little trouble--even if its something unforseen I'll be freaking out that it will affect his on-field performance and things will snowball.

If Cam is going 105 in a 45 then everyone who ever questioned his intelligence will have been proven correct.

Prior to the start of 2008....we just came off of a carousel of quarterbacks and were hoping Jake could come back. Our passing game was sporadic but the running game was much better than expected. Smitty had the highest yards per catch but we were inconsistent which bit us in the butt in the playoffs when teams loaded the box. Stewart and Otah were excellent as rookies and Williams played like a possessed man.

Prior to the start of 2009.....we hoped that Jake would improve and regain some consistency. Instead he regressed and Moore had to come in to salvage the season. We sank to 7-9 again and the confidence of the fans started to erode. Our defense was still pretty good but we lost a lot of games when our offense sputtered until Moore went on a tear late.

Prior to the start of 2010......Richardson dumped all the veterans and we brought in no veteran quarterback. We went on the cheap knowing that a lockout was on the horizon and expected it to last at least into the season. We had a lame duck coach and staff. People who thought we would be good with Clausen and Moore were hoping for success but we stripped the team of leadership and when we struggled we fell apart quickly. This was an alltime low because even the 1-15 team of 2001 had more veteran leadership and potential than this team.

Prior to the start of 2011.....we needed a quarterback and a bunch of players who could help rebuilt the team. We signed our core group and had the potential to be pretty good until we suffered a franchise high number of guys on IR and our defense was a revolving door. We had a rookie quarterback, no offseason or training camp and a whole new staff and scheme to install in 3 weeks. We finished up 4-2 to end the season and had high hopes that we could build on this reminiscent of 2004 which was the last year prior to this one that we had a QB in the probowl.

So now this year, we have a coaching staff that wil have all offseason to install the scheme, we have returning players that will have been in a scheme for a year. We have lots of guys returning from IR and backups who got lots of experience starting. We have the potential for stability and a franchise quarterback for really the first time in our franchise history and certainly the first since 2006. So we have all the signs of building a contender and plowing totally new ground. So the paradigm of earlier doesn't really apply to this team unless you go back to 2004. The only thing that could derail us will be more injuries. Otherwise we should contend this year and perhaps reprise the 2005 season.

Edited to present a more realistic and factual basis. You're welcome.

well, I disagree with the AZ playoff game being the result of AZ stacking the box......stopping us......and forcing us into our sporadic passing attack.

Pretty sure, Williams and Stewart went through the AZ D like swiss cheese on the opening drive. Fox then abandoned the run game on his own opting for the Jake show.

Fox was probably even more to blame for the AZ game than Jake. Coaching in that game was worse than QB play.....and that says a lot.

    • Sellers is absolutely one to keep an eye on. Could be the next Cam or could be the next Anthony Richardson. Curious to see how he has progressed come this fall.
    • I think Texas could go 0-12 and he would still go #1 based on his name and traits like you say.  But nusselman and sellers may be actually better qbs.    Man if bryce stinks it up this season its looking like a damn good year to swap out qbs.  Sellers highlights are just fuging jaw dropping
    • I mean, the kid comes from a wealthy family. It's not like he needs the money. He has a ton of potential now we get to see what he can do as a starter. Everyone penciling him in as the #1 overall pick is putting the cart way before the horse. It's 5% because of his talent and what he's showing on the field and 95% because his last name is Manning. And if he is what he's hyped to be the Texas coaching staff needs to be answering some tough questions about why the kid wasn't on the field sooner. Ewers was a good college QB but he's definitely not a "keep a future #1 overall pick waiting" type of college QB. Only getting one season out of a top NFL talent because you chose to keep him buried behind a borderline NFL talent is just coaching negligence. Not starting him as a true freshman? Yeah, I get that. But on year two if the kids is what he's hyped to be you gotta wish Ewers well elsewhere and turn the page.
