So what do we need to be worried about?

I think the offense will be fine if we get our o-line healthy or pick up a good player or two. My main concern is our kicking game. We lost some games last year because we moved the ball well only to miss a chip shot field goal. Kasay was clutch under pressure, but Mare wasn't. Its not only a good leg, but also mental. Mare lost his mojo.

We need who can replace Mare and maybe Baker as well. It would be great if that player could repalce both. Thoughts ?

Prior to the start of 2008....we worried about having an offense with Jake attemtping to be the first QB to successfully comeback from Tommy John. Offense rolled overall through the regular season w/ Double Trouble and Smitty leading the league in rec yards per game.

Prior to the start of 2009.....we thought we could maintain and make another playoff run. Opposite was true.

Prior to the start of 2010......we thought we needed to be worried about defense as the offense would carry us. Opposite was true.

Prior to the start of 2011.....we thought we needed to be worried about getting enough offense as the D would be solid enough. Opposite was true.

So now this year, we look to be worried about getting enough D to aid the offense........we tend to be wrong.

And who was the head coach during all of those seasons? Not saying Fox was a bad coach or anything but he was very inconsistent. We have new coaches and a different philosophy now. I am worried about our offense regressing but in my mind I don't see how it's possible when we will have a full offseason + workouts and we maintained the core of our coaching staff (out side of a few position coaching changes) I think our offense will be alright as long as we don't suffer any major injuries.

Defense should be vastly improved. The only thing that worries me is Sean McDermott. I was never crazy about him as the DC for the Eagles and he didn't have a good year at all last year (injures did play a part) but I'll remain hopeful that Rivera will have a huge influence on this defense this year.

well, I disagree with the AZ playoff game being the result of AZ stacking the box......stopping us......and forcing us into our sporadic passing attack.

Pretty sure, Williams and Stewart went through the AZ D like swiss cheese on the opening drive. Fox then abandoned the run game on his own opting for the Jake show.

Fox was probably even more to blame for the AZ game than Jake. Coaching in that game was worse than QB play.....and that says a lot.

We abandoned the run because Arizona made defensive shifts after the first series and began loading the box and playing a 5 man front.

But assume you are right and it is Fox, you just refuted your argument. Why would this year be anything like the past where the opposite of what we expect to happen occurs when Fox is gone which you blame for much of our troubles.

Each team and year are totally unique so drawing parallels from the past to now make no sense and are irrelevant.

I'm not worried about McDermott. Rivera is the HC, but I can't imagine him being passive at all regarding defensive decision-making. It's his bread and butter....no way he isn't deeply involved with that part of the game. Considering where we were last year, that's a good thing. I expect improvements similar to the ones seen in the offense last year. I'm sure he expects at least that....I trust him....

My worries include:

1. who can we count on being healthy. TD and Otah great when healthy but we flounder with replacements

2.How are we going to get sufficient pressure on the qb?

3.Are we going to have enough money to address our defensive backfield and line...we do not have enough draft picks to do it

4.Cam getting injuried and having to watch Clausen again

I'm worried about cam getting in trouble off the field. Before you laugh or flame me; it would take one little 105 in a 45 MPH zone or something slightly more serious for the media to be on it like flies on poo.

I want things nice and quiet on the Cam front like they have been. Once we're four years into this career/marriage I'll no longer worry. But it hasn't been long enough and if he gets into a little trouble--even if its something unforseen I'll be freaking out that it will affect his on-field performance and things will snowball.

You sound like my mother

    • Sellers is absolutely one to keep an eye on. Could be the next Cam or could be the next Anthony Richardson. Curious to see how he has progressed come this fall.
    • I think Texas could go 0-12 and he would still go #1 based on his name and traits like you say.  But nusselman and sellers may be actually better qbs.    Man if bryce stinks it up this season its looking like a damn good year to swap out qbs.  Sellers highlights are just fuging jaw dropping
    • I mean, the kid comes from a wealthy family. It's not like he needs the money. He has a ton of potential now we get to see what he can do as a starter. Everyone penciling him in as the #1 overall pick is putting the cart way before the horse. It's 5% because of his talent and what he's showing on the field and 95% because his last name is Manning. And if he is what he's hyped to be the Texas coaching staff needs to be answering some tough questions about why the kid wasn't on the field sooner. Ewers was a good college QB but he's definitely not a "keep a future #1 overall pick waiting" type of college QB. Only getting one season out of a top NFL talent because you chose to keep him buried behind a borderline NFL talent is just coaching negligence. Not starting him as a true freshman? Yeah, I get that. But on year two if the kids is what he's hyped to be you gotta wish Ewers well elsewhere and turn the page.
