Likelihood Jeff Otah is cut?

Players have a way of turning that contract year into a big payday. Kinda hope that is what happens. Whithout the big payday part.

If he plays well this year, he will get another contract offer. If he does not perform well this year, he is probably gone. Too bad, he was a beast when healthy.

Personally, I hope he returns to form. He makes us better.

Problem ! They let Schwartz go, Hangman is a FA, and Otah is in a contract year. We need to have a backup plan if Otah goes down. Is Ziemba or Bell the answer ?

They didn't let Schwartz go, they allowed him to go to free agency. They can resign him just as they can Hangartner.

I'm not an Otah believe for the long term.

The meniscus issue is not going to go away.

He can lose weight, he can train hard, he can do all of those things but the fact is a meniscus issue is degenerative for normal people with normal trauma, much less a 24 year old 300 lb man in a collision sport.

This year, they have no choice but to keep him; but, I'd say let someone else tender him a contract and no way could he replace Gross, he's not that great in pass protection, run yes, pass no.

Just my thoughts.

We have 16 mil on IR

The Carolina Panthers have spent more money than any other NFC South team this year. They’re only $1.99 million under the salary cap.

The problem with that, though, is a large chunk of that cap space is standing on the sidelines on game days and going through rehab during the week. Carolina has nine players on injured reserve and they’re taking up a whopping $16.309 million in cap space.

This club is led by Jon Beason, who is counting $6.322 million toward the cap. Thomas Davis is counting for $2.525 million. Jeff Otah is at $2.358 million and Ron Edwards counts for $2.33 million.

The verb tense should be had 16 million on IR. Beason will come back, the question is how effective will he be and how soon. Davis will give it a try and we all hope for the best. Edwards is reportedly fine and Otah should be fine if he will just man up and play with some pain. So of that 16 million- we will have to see how much is wasted. Certainly not all of it. As for spending more money, we also have the most players locked up long term. New Orleans for example is in much worse shape than us and will likely lose key players to free agency. They have 15 million pledged to one player who says he won't play for them unless they give him 8 more a year.

First of all a meniscectomy is when they remove the torn meniscus and studies have shown that this can shorten your career from an average of 7 years to six. Not having the meniscus can cause arthritis particularly over time. However Otah's meniscus was not removed but rather repaired which means that his meniscus is intact and should cause no problems if not injured again.

Arian Foster played all of 2010 with a torn meniscus. How did he come back from that in 2011. Yeah......... And his was removed not repaired.

    • AT got what he deserved. Be gone and enjoy those 4 catches and the bench and your pay cut
    • we have been bad offensively basically every game Rico Dowdle hasn't gone full Tecmo Bowl Bo Jackson on folks.
    • Strongly disagree with the premise here. Without getting too into it, the biggest gripe for many has always been his footwork and pocket presence.  Shallow drops, happy feet, bad awareness - his overall technique is highly unconventional and not beneficial to his size/frame.  His upper body gets mad out of sync with his lower, drops back parallel to the LOS, erratic behavior. When you take that to the NFL level, you get swallowed up. And he got shellshocked and started bailing way too soon on plays. Unnecessary throwaways when he should step UP into the pocket and hit.   He got away with it in school because sooo much of his work was out of structure or quick hits to Jamo.  He was able to not bail early and stick in the pocket this last game. He also was dropping deeper than he usually does to create sight lanes. He can’t really outrun DLs so he needs to create that space via drop to survey properly. When he does these bs skip hops in the gun, he barely drops and is flooded. He needs to stay active with his feet but learn to step into the pocket more.  His average arm when he’s not doing this right turns Pennington esque.
