Could Bruce Campbell Start?

Recommended Posts

Ok huddlers, how comfortable would you feel with Bruce Campbell starting at any position on our O-line next year given our financial situation?

We all remember his amazing physical talent at the draft. I believe he had 34 reps, bench presses well over 500 pounds and a 4.85 40 time. The kid is one of the most impressive physical specimens in the NFL to date. He is also only 24 years old. Last years pre-season tapes showed just how nasty he can be on the field as well. Though against sub-par talent he recorded at least 4 pancake blocks and seemed to be playing great.

On the other hand, offensive line guru Tom Cable attempted to move him in to play guard in Oakland, and he never caught on with the transition, never earned the starting role and was eventually traded here.

There are rumors of an inability to learn the playbook, slow mental acuity, and that the mental issues could stem from hydrocephalus experianced as a child.

Do you think a year of tutalege under our system is enough to have him ready for the starting role or is he destined to forever back-up our starting rotation?

Depends on how much time the coaches have with him. I think he needs a personal coach, from what I have read about him. The dude is a specimen, but he needs a lot of one-on-one time for him to reach his potential. To me, he is worth the extra guidance.

The interwebs say he saw time in 5 games last year. When and where these games were I am uncertain. Does anyone have the ability to go back and chronical these?

35 snaps.

5 snaps at LT vs Giants

1 snap at LT vs the seahawks

1 snap at RT vs the cowboys

22 snaps at LG vs the Raiders

6 snaps at RT vs the Saints(week 17)

Its a valid question. The guy has the physical attributes but I have no idea how to determine is he teachable or not. it would be a real steal if we can make something out of him

Von Miller made Bell look terrible last year. I thought, "We have a guy who runs a 4.8 40 on our bench and he is not being considered to replace Bell. I am confident that our coaches know what we have there.

Workout warriors tease you and make you dig for fool's gold.

This was a fair question and we all hoped he would benefit from leaving oakland, where he dropped down the depth chart to obscurity.

    • I read an article a few days ago that places like Seattle green bay and a few others are revoking tickets rights to holders that sell 100% of their tickets. That would do a lot of good league wide for bringing back some home field advantages. We aren't the only team who's stadiums get over run by visitors. It happens basically everywhere. That would go a long way to bringing ticket costs down
    • yeah, you can basically copy and paste my thoughts from this time last year.   We are building an O more suited for Jake Delhomme than Bryce Young.  Tmac and XL sound great for the downfield gunslinger  Give them opportunities to make plays.  From what I have seen, and the scouting stuff I have read.....TMac does not project as a get open quick WR.  He is going to have to work on getting off the line at this level, getting open, etc.  Which is all good.  This you go to think people will be studs out the gate or you are hater logic just ain't what I do.   Take my XL stance last year.  I lobbied hard for him.  When we drafted him I immediately told folks to pump their breaks on the wild expectations.    If XL legitimately turned into what I think he can be.....his best setup in the league would not be paired w/ a QB like Young.  if Bryce was going to be the dude, I would have lobbied for Ladd vs XL.  I was an XL guy.   And again, I would have gone Warren/Jeanty this draft.   I would have invested in small ball talent for him to be the PG for.
    • @TheBigKatare you going to Arizona? I'm thinking about making a road trip again. Haven't venture out since we got spanked in Miami a couple years ago
