Gettleman talks "Hog Mollies"...

Mr. Scot

Don't piss on me, then tell me it's raining. This is just the same ol' poo that we've endured the last several years with the O-line. And, to be honest, with Rivera's ass on the line---which basically means we're gambling with team chemistry and continuity---and Cam's contract year coming up, this seems more like a roll of the dice than a formula for success.

The reality will become a lot clearer when the Giants come through town.

I just dont know how gettleman can look at this Oline and be ok with it, Silatolu, williams and scott are as bad as they get, I trust that he knows what he is talking about but i have an awful feeling they are trying to spit shine a turd.

Respectfully disagree. Scott held his own better and for every mistake that Silatolu has made he has atoned by absolutely blasting someone down the field. Bell's atonement is getting bull rushed into Cam instead of letting his assignment by.

They must really look a lot better in practice than they do in preseason. I could see it to a certain extent in that in preseason the offense is experimenting with a basic game plan to evaluate certain players. But I can't see the o-line being THAT much better than they currently look. We should still pick some one up.

Personally, I think Gettlemen believes every word of this--he may not like the line, but bringing in a starting-level OL this late in the game would be foolish.  Considering the fact that there were not stud starters available, he had to factor in the fact that a late addition would throw the chemistry development back, nullifying any advantage.

I think we could be looking at a LT in the draft next season.

The guard situation is encouraging---Silatolu, Scott, Williams--next year, maybe Kugbila is ready to go.

While the line will struggle at times this season, Gmen thinks there is nothing he can really do as a "quick fix."

we have two old guys on the OL under one year deals and a few other piece meals added in.

i think we're several years away from having an OL that is consistantly good and that can come into the season already gelling.

i'm not sold at all on this OL.

I have issues with the current configuration of the line, but those issues are tempered by two things:

1) I doubt the current configuration lasts into next season (and might not even finish the current season).

2) I very much like the underlying philosophy Gettleman is laying out here.

What Gettleman wants to do is essentially find a group of five guys who work well together, and stick with them. By contrast, Hurney seemed to tinker with the line on an annual basis.

Getting a lineup in place that stays solid for five years or so sounds pretty good to me, even if it realistically may not happen till next offseason.

    • if  ANYONE actually goes & looks at the FACTS on rookie Qb's after 2 full seasons as a starter in the NFL & they are still well below average do they rarely ever actually become top tier Qb's & instead most likely either do not recieve a second contract & or become life long backups...just saying
    • So he became GM and decided not to address the weakness in the QB room following one of the worst rookie QB performances in NFL history?  There were options last season other than signing Dalton to a 2 year deal. Brissett and Jones by a wide margin, both of whom outplayed Bryce, Wilson, Winston, hell even Rivers off the couch was more exciting at the QB position. The time to address the failure in the QB room was last year but instead people on the Huddle cheered when we brought Dalton back then cheered when we were able to get anything for him after they finally realized he was washed up like a few of had been saying all along and got poo'd for even mentioning.  This year, the options were more limited obviously, especially since we lost Icky. It changed the dynamic of our draft. I think we were stuck this year keeping Bryce, but i still think giving him a 5th year option for what has amounted to replacement worthy performance was the wrong move. Why guarantee 25m if you're planning to replace him? You think he's going to want to be a bridge QB? Hell no. He's going to want out and we'll end up cutting him if he has another lackluster season because no one is trading for him with that price tag.  Were there better options as far as production available. A couple. Were there guys available with more physical tools than Bryce, Pickett or Grier, you damn well better believe there were. I've been saying all along, you always keep looking for your 1b. Bryce has yet to prove he can be a starter. Keep looking for someone who may. Put competition in camp. Let the best QB lead the team. Stop settling for less than mediocre.
