It's pretty bad when a starting player goes to IR, but it not affecting the team that much. Just shows how weak we are at the position. Garry Williams and now Godfrey won't hurt us that much.

I need eight, that's my goal, and I marked that down before we even started OTAs (offseason workouts) and I'm sticking with that and anything more is a bonus,” Godfrey said. “I want to be the guy back there to where if the offense needs something I'm able to be back there and take that away.

“Also it's about getting my hands on the ball. I want to get Cam (Newton) and our guys the ball back so when that ball is in the air I want to have an opportunity to make a play on the back end. The good defenses take the ball away. We finished pretty good last year, but we weren't the No. 1 defense and that's where we're going, to be No. 1. It's not going to be easy, we need to work at it and hopefully we'll get to that point.”
