Once again lets discuss Greg Hardy for a sec

Why the hell would we want Peppers back?

LOL yeah, Peppers is really tearing it up this year!

But at least he has a good attitude and provides good veteran leadership in the locker room... OH WAIT.

We should all be very grateful to Peppers, he did us a HUGE favor by rejecting the contract offers we made him. I think that deserves it's own appreciation thread.

But back on topic, Hardy is one of the best and most consistent pass rushers in the league and he deserves a significant contract. Chasing FA's while letting your own talented home-grown players walk is the path to hell.

Hardy is not only worth his own weight in gold, but he helps us get the most value out of our investment in CJ by being the bookend DE you need to have a truly consistent and effective pass rush.

I'd love to keep him, but I just don't know if we can.  I'm not sure I want two big money DEs.  Could CJ possibly restructure?  I don't know.  All I know is that 99.9% of the Huddle was onboard with keeping both DeAngelo and J. Stew and now they're just killing our cap space.  Gettleman could get creative with the structure of the deal, but I don't know.  We'll just have to see.  Addison has looked good when given opportunities. I don't view Hardy as a MUST sign.  We gotta put some money in the offense and I don't mean more RBs.  OL and WR.  Some CBs too.

What in blue hell?

At some point these RB contracts will be replaced by contracts on the DL..  Would be bad to let a guy go who can single-handedly erase a TD against the Aints*..  Granted they only scored again anyhow.

People can scoff at Hardy's importance to this team, but don't clown yourself by saying Alexander is going to make up for Hardy when the kid can't even get a jersey on Game day..

Addison and Horton have been getting attention..  Maybe Addison turns out to be one of those feel-good stories, but at the moment all they are is very convenient depth which is a huge plus to have.  Ideally, you want to be able to trade over-abundance at one position, but we just developed it.

Money should be thrown at certain positions of importance.  Unfortunately it's being wasted at the moment...

Were there any big DE contracts given last year? If anything I thought this offseason showed that teams were NOT willing to offer big (Mario Williams) contracts to dline. How many defensive players turned down extensions and then got a smaller contract once they had to go into the market and find a buyer.

And in the offseason the 2011 CBA contacts can start to get negotiated. Eating up more CAP space.

Dareus(Buf), Watt(Hou), Quinn(StL), Kerrigan(WAS), Clayborn(TB), Jordan(NO), Houston(KC). Even if the teams can't come to an agreement, the CBA allows teams to add an option year to their rookie contract. I'm not sure big money will be out for RFAs in the offseason.

Paul Kruger got a big deal for his production, 40+ over 5 years. Dumervil signed a 40+ over 5 year deal. Desmond Bryant got a 5 year deal worth 34 million. I lump all edge rusher's together in the same money category, because they all usually make similar money deal wise. Hardy's combination of Youth, production and versatility is better then the above players.

    • That makes me wonder, how many starting tackles in the NFL and/or elite tackles have short arms? I feel like there’s probably lots of tackles that end up being drafted in later rounds because they had short arms or didn’t have the physical tools.     also why not draft a tackle in the later rounds that we could move to guard or center if they fail, instead of drafting a center? If we draft a center we know they aren’t going to play tackle but if you draft a tackle they could end up playing any of the 3 positions, look at BC for example. It feels like it’s a better decision to draft a tackle in later rounds than a center.
    • Damn back to 10th. I only caught the last 5 minutes but some of those 3's were horrible lol. In that close of game you can't be launching those many hail mary's when you could be chipping away from the foul line. I guess no one wanted to get in the paint and didn't trust the refs to give them the calls maybe? Gonna watch the highlights to get a better idea of the flow of the game
    • I agree.  The Big 12 is a good conference, and he is the swinging dick in that conference.  If Bill Self retires, that sets Kansas back a bit, and Arizona moves even further ahead as the best team in that conference.  Arizona can crush west coast recruiting with USC / UCLA no longer being relevant for LA kids, and Gonzaga not being able to compete moneywise.   If Lloyd comes here, he will be second fiddle to Duke every single year in NIL and recruits.  Not to mention the entire SEC and Big East for kids who want to stay in those regions to play. This is why I keep saying go get Mark Few.  Has proven he can do more with less from an X / O perspective but can also recruit All American players and compete at a high level. He's a god at Gonzaga, but for $9M he'd make the move as that's 4x what he's making at Gonzaga, and makes him the highest paid coach in the country.
