LaFell calls out Jonathan Jones

Our reporters job is to write stories about the Panthers. When Joe Person went after Lafell's personal life I had Brandon's back. But when someone goes after your performance on the football field you need to suck it up. This is the big leagues.

What did person say again I remember that vaguely but not details

I'd be fine bringing LaFell back despite his obvious shortcomings.

Why? We have no one else. Run blocking is always needed. He could be a decent #3 or 4 should we find replacements. But. it's all contingent on him re-signing for a million at most.

Honestly, I think Panther fans have come to regard WR blocking too highly because we aren't used to having anyone other than steve who can actually catch. Too much emphasis is placed on lafell being able to do his third or fourth responsibility as a receiver after catching, scoring touchdowns, and running routes. If he was actually a receiving threat, there would have been no discussion on whether to bring him back or not. 9 times out of 10 a run doesn't make it to the second level, and in those instances, yes it's nice to have a WR who can block. However It really isn't that important in the grand scheme of the position.

He was a good run blocking WR and at best a solid #3 or #4 receiver.  Nothing to break the bank for but if he'd come in on a cheap contract he'd be worth having around - pending they do some upgrading to the WR position otherwise.

    • After last season, it was the same question. And the answer most people came to was "If he doesn't make the playoffs, he's gone." He made the playoffs. No matter how it was done, we made it to the playoffs. He's safe. He's going to have a chance to keep working this out, even if next season isn't a playoff one.  I think we'll do better next year than we did this season. There's something being built here.
    • The NBA is a very fickle league. Kon is one of the hottest rookies in years and beyond just his play on the court he is a very steady competitor and that translates to the rest of the team. That has been a glaring absence with the culture of this franchise through the bulk of the LaMelo Ball years that's just being completely blunt and realistic. The enigma of LaMelo Ball is he is entering year 6 and still either red hot or ice cold. We need him to find that sweet spot. Logic dictates the Hornets will want to see this core again next year. But the clock is beyond ticking at this point. It's put up or shut up. Especially considering what the Thunder managed to do recently. I'm hopeful they can keep these wins rolling in and get some much needed playoff experience under their belts which will help substantially.
    • I think as long as the Panthers are competitive with Canales they should keep him. Pepper needs to repair his/the teams image as a place prized free agents aren't hesitant to consider. Just dont do any crazy poo for a few years.
