Rivera says Cam wasn't consulted in WR moves

I'm sure...

Assuming the story is actually true, Luke has only been in the league one year. He'll learn about the business side of the game pretty quick.

In short, you're not in college anymore kid. It's a job now. And the thing about jobs is that sometimes, people get fired.

Did you leave out 2012?

No, you are wrong. We are all expecting Cam to get an absurd amount of money to stay anyway. After watching his rookie season anyone who thought this guy didn't have a big pay day coming was an idiot.

Edit: You honestly think someone of his skill/caliber would take a discount if we told him ahead of time we were releasing Steve...or if we added other marginal WRs

I agree with you that one of the reasons that we are going on the cheap and managing the cap is so we can pay Cam a ridiculous amount of money which he will get no matter what.  Plus the idea that we will have to pay him a ton of money in order to convince him to stay is plain ridiculous.  How many playoff wins has Romo had in his career???  Did that stop him from getting paid a boatload.  Quarterbacks don't take discounts because there are only 32 of them in the league and only about half of them are very good.  He will get paid a ton and he will be here whether he wants to be or not.  I can't remember a quarterback going somewhere else as a free agent when the team wanted him to stay.

some in this fanbase have been convinced Cam was going to bolt since we drafted him and are looking for every excuse in every offseason to explain why.

We went 12-4 last year and won our division.  This offseason isn't even done yet.

No reason to panic.

This^^^

Plus, when has a quarterback ever bolted when a franchise wanted to keep him?? I can't think of any and doubt anyone else can either.  Because it just doesn't happen.

Cam has earned his contract, you have to pay the piper. I have no problem with it. However, because of who he is as a man and a leader I see him taking a deal like Rodgers or Brady that's structured in a manner to benefit the team. He's not the POS Drew Brees is.

I do believe he's that type of guy, but at the same time this organization(and this isn't on Gettleman, YET)hasn't proven that they are capable of building around him. Now you have a new GM in Gettleman who released Steve Smith, failed to retain Ginn, and failed to sign a young WR in Nicks. And also has failed to bring in quality offensive line talent. He values Greg Hardy over those moves that could have been made so it has to work for him.

The offseason should be about improvement and there's no doubt that as of right now this offense is worse than it was at this point last year. I heard the main priority this offseason was to surround Cam with talent, has that happened? Regardless of what the calendar says, it's going to be hard to do going forward.

If I'm Cam I'm not too confident right now, especially since it appears he doesn't know what's going on. That's why I believe he should at least be briefed on what the plan is going forward

A lot of guys in here drinking whatever gettleman is selling while everyone in football is asking what he hell are the carolina panthers doing. Generally there are 2 sides to a argument and if you look yo your left and right and no one is on ur side your probably wrong.

When you don't have an argument...just make stuff up.

Again we are only 4 weeks into the season.  Last year we had more holes than we do now and we went 12-4 from 7-9.

Gettleman has shown that he can build a winner and do it in less than 1 year.  After this season he will show that we can build a consistent winner as we have a back to back winning season for the first time in our history.

Was Cam briefed last year about the plan?  How did that work out?  Like Olsen said last week, they saw what Gettleman did last year so they are taking a wait and see attitude. Why not take a page from their play book and do the same.  Or do you think you need to briefed as well about what we are going to do in the draft and for the rest of free agency??

Many bosses consult with employees. That doesn't mean they do whatever they say . I see both sides of this argument. I am glad this is all on G-man.

NFL General Managers don't.

Players play. Coaches coach. General Managers sign and release. That's the way it is pretty much everywhere in the league...

...and that's exactly the way it should be.

    • Ppl want to trade Melo? Am I wrong for thinking that would be a bad idea?
    • Some of you act like one can't learn from experience over time. Just because you may not know what you're doing in 2018 doesn't mean that you don't know what you're doing in 2025. Frankly, you grow from experience, and success and excellence gives first-time applicants the hand probably 99.999% of the time.
    • It's an interesting topic of conversation as sports evolves. I think ultimately it would lead to a number of small market franchises folding though. Especially in the NBA where there are so many bad teams that have been bad for years and years in some cases already. But as it stands I think athlete pay draft or no draft aside has reached a point where we can and should realistically ask should they make that much compared to the average person. Now college athletes is a different conversation but even that reaches a breaking point. But we could go down the rabbit hole on this even further into overall entertainment and talk about actors making absurd sums too. In the end I think in sports the powers that be won't allow these changes to even be considered because it opens the door for so many other variables. But who knows how long sports like football will realistically be around after people like us pass on. We're only just now learning about things like CTE which the league and the sport in general will only be able to run away from for so long. As far as the NBA goes my understanding is viewership has been steadily going down for a number of reasons but one crucial aspect is key players missing so many games. The NBA has to figure that out regardless. Especially when considering fans who pay to see these athletes compete in person. But hey I guess let's just try to appreciate what we've got while it still exists in this form eh?
