David Newton a little more serious about Hardy's situation.

In that case, she could still ask to have the charges dropped and it would be done if the DA agrees. This being a high profile case though, could change how things are typically handled. (My wife works for an attorney and sees these types of cases all the time...)

Its still completely up to the prosecutor. I know a spouse can refuse to testify. So does that mean anyone else cannot refuse?

This is a lot different than the Rae Carruth situation

Nevertheless it is serious and disappointing

Agreed, however, domestic violence is a grim reminder of a murdered pregnant woman. If this case holds any merit, then no way JR can keep him on the team. The press will be too bad.

Side note, I personally think this girl got traded in on a different model this past weekend and she made a scene of things being her potential cash cow was slipping away. A vindictive temper tantrum! At least I hope that's what this is

I reserve judgment until the whole story is out. In about 95% of these types of cases, the charges are dropped by the alleged victim. I guess we will see how this one plays out.

Just because charges are dropped does not mean the accused is innocent.

I think in NC the police can take out charges if they see evidence of domestic violence.  If that is the case...the victim can't drop.  If she has documented injuries as reported.....trouble

Likewise, just because someone is charged, doesn't mean they are guilty either. You are right that the police can take out charges with evidence. However, if the alleged victim won't testify, the DA doesn't have much of a case. After hearing 911 calls, I can see this being dropped, right or wrong.

We are getting ripped by other fan bases and social watch dogs. Big cat is not pleased. Bad timing for Hardy too. Ultimately he is owed due process. This just seems overblown to me. Neither required medical attention. People get angry and have a go at eachother sometimes. If it ends with this Hardy shouldn't be viewed as a woman beater.

I am no way condoning Hardy's actions but it was a misdemeanor. They both were drunk and in the long run it is he said /she said. Other than the witnesses that heard the commotion no one saw anything. Hardy said she attacked him first and he went crazy.

I think she will get some money and Hardy might get suspended a game or two or three but it will blow over and Hardy will remain a Panther. IMO

This is still a very serious issue, though because of the internet and social media, we've twisted this thing around so many times that it's easy for us to blow it off because "we are done with it."

Let's think about this:  Two young people's lives will be changed for ever.  Right now, I'm leaning towards Hardy's innocence of criminal activity.  Regardless though, he still has to carry this around for the rest of his life.  She will have to deal with her own reputation from these activities for the rest of her life.

Fact is there was no shortage of stupid that night.  If Hardy gets to play another down of pro football, he needs to thank his lucky stars.  If the girlfriend can get a normal job and have a good, normal life after this, she should thank her lucky stars as well.

    • Fowler: Bucs 23, Panthers 16. Baker Mayfield only won a single game when he was an unimpressive Carolina starter, but somehow he’s 5-0 when playing AGAINST the Panthers. For the Panthers to pull off this upset, they’ll need to score at least in the mid-20s. With Tampa Bay relatively healthy following a mini-bye (and Mike Evans’ return is huge), it feels like this will be too tough a task. Kaye: Bucs 24, Panthers 20. The win-loss-win-loss streak comes to an end. It’s hard to trust the play-calling following the loss to the New Orleans Saints. The Panthers know what’s on the line, but they also knew last week, too. It’ll be close; I just have trouble trusting a positive outcome after a defeating one on the road. Zietlow: Panthers 38, Bucs 35. This prediction goes against conventional wisdom, but then again, conventional wisdom doesn’t seem to apply to these Panthers. This group, after all, has yet to lose back-to-back contests since Weeks 1 and 2. I think they win this one to make Week 18 interesting — and yes, that’s even with motivated Baker Mayfield and future Hall of Famer Mike Evans in good form. Why not?
    • Sam developed into a different player after he mostly sat for a year and learned a ton by being in that QB room under Shannahan in San Francisco.  Then he went to the Vikings who have a poo load of talent and another genius level offensive mind at HC in Kevin O Connel. I think they genuinely built up his confidence in a way he never did in New York or Charlotte.  He would not have been the same player if he stayed here IMO. Especially if he had been involved in that disaster season with Frank Reich in 2023, that might have cooked his confidence for good.  I guess you could argue we wouldn't have been that bad if we also kept cmc and dj i guess.
    • Willis was impressive last night given the circumstances. GB and SF seem to just have it figured out as far as QB goes.   It's frustrating, but I enjoy seeing our old players find success elsewhere.
