A ranking people may actually like, but...

...the accompanying article isn't exactly the most optimistic piece you'll ever read

PFT: Panthers take the 10th spot in our Preseason Power Rankings

While there’s plenty of reason for optimism in Carolina, there are also plenty of reasons for concern.

There’s clearly enough talent at the right spots for the Panthers to justify being slotted 10th in our Preseason Power Rankings, but there are also sufficient questions to be answered.

Having a top defense intact for another year and Cam Newton at the helm of the offense is enough to make them a contender, but they also have massive holes on the offensive line and at wide receiver, which could make it hard for them to match last year’s success.

If Newton is able to elevate an offense playing without Steve Smith and Jordan Gross for the first time in a decade, the Panthers could again be a playoff team.

But they’ve never had back-to-back winning seasons in franchise history, and it’s possible they might not break that record this year.

I saw it and thought about posting it, but 1) it's PFT and 2) rankings come right in behind conspiracy theories and alien abductions on the list of things that matter so...

fwiw 10th is pretty fair imo but I looked at the list of who's already been ranked and they're gonna have the Saints higher than us so fug them.

I actually believe we will be end up with back to back winning seasons for the first time. It is just something special going on in this team. While we may have a few unknown areas, that is exciting to me. It gives these guys that a lot of people are counting out a chance to rise up and proved the league wrong.

Nope. Can't be 10th. We have "massive holes".

I admit I'm worried about the OL, but I think those saying our WR's are a big dropoff from last year are gonna be embarrassed.

Funny how all these people are measuring quantity over quality.  We lost three average WR's and an older above average guy and they make it seem like we lost 3 pro bowlers.  Now the LT position certainly warrants concern.

I think RT warrants more concern than LT

    • If you need someone to run your multi-billion dollar business, maaayyyybe don't hire a guy whose previous work experience includes repeated blows to the head and literal brain damage but IDK.
    • Extrapolate that with every QB for that matter. I guarantee you there's quite a bit of missed opportunities and yards left on the field for everyone. Many NFL QBs deal with WRs not putting in A+ effort, subpar o-line play and other deficiencies. The great ones are able to rise above these issues and create opportunities for plays. Guys like Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes can both play in and out of structure, as well as find ways to get yards when things break down and mask mistakes by throwing guys open, creating opportunities from nothing, etc. Bryce Young has only shown he's able to make things happen when the rest of the team picks up his slack. Very rarely does he create those opportunities himself. When this is a consistent pattern year after year with Bryce where he shows up lackluster, it's a concern. This is year three and he should be elevating the team as a first overall pick this franchise traded up for.  He was far from elevating anyone against JAX. In fact, he needed others to elevate and create for him. Excuses may be fine for a rookie, but this is year three for the first overall pick. Not looking good so far.
    • I think the worst issue is coaching. Countless bad snaps, XL not getting his feet in or trying on runs plays, our centre being down field when he didn't need to be. All seem to be from poor coaching for me. I believe Canales is to soft to rip the players a new one when the fug up. Plus I honestly believe that Canales is slow getting his plays in giving Bryce less time to diagnose and adjust to the defence. Don't worry I could of head butted Bryce for that fumble and the 4th down throw aways but the other plays are explainable to me
