K.K. and Star still two peas in a pod, as reported by Brian Strickland

"We're still together like we're roommates. We drove here together," Short said. "I go right in my room and go to bed anyway - I don't even have a TV, don't even want one. I'm here to work, and he's here to work, too."

Well, that's not news, right?  Still good to hear though.  This is one so-called "fluff piece" that we can all have faith in knowing that there is some real substance behind the sun and rainbows.  Star Lotulelei and kawann Short did pretty well last year, so it's only natural for greater expectations this year.  As rookies they wet our appetites and put opposing offenses on notice: 'We're here. K.K. and Star are here."

Of course most believed that they had the talent.  I mean, any given draft (including their's) you could have argued that Short was first round talent (much like Ealy this year).  You may not totally agree with Dave Gettleman's draft philosophy, but this year's draft only strengthens the notion that he knows talent (have you heard reports on Morgan Mose and Cyrus Kouandjio?).  But, I digress.  If you don't take anything else from Strickland's short piece take away what Strickland referred to as the "rookie-free zone":

The rookie-free zone created by defensive line coach Eric Washington helped the duo get off to a good start and has them ahead of the curve entering their second season.

"When I first got here, Coach Washington and all the guys were telling me, ‘It's not college. There are no redshirts, no rookies. We expect you to play and do big things,' " Short said. "Me and Star took that and ran with it, and now we have that experience and the opportunity to do better.

"Coach Washington gives you the guidelines, leads you to the water, and then you've just got to do it."

Star and K.K. are doing just that by all accounts.  And the chemistry and support between the two continues to be an important part of their development.

"Me and K.K. spend a lot of time together because we play the same position and came in the same time as rookies," Lotulelei said. "We've grown together, and we're still growing. Learning together it makes it easier."

If there are two other Panthers this year that I know will take a greater leap, as individuals and a "unit", I can't name them.

Nike doesn't make Davis jerseys. It pisses me off. You either have to get the shitty Pro Line version or pay an extra $50 bucks to get a custom one.

I guess I'll have to get a custom one.

    • Btw... only Mitch fugging Marner has a better +/- than Key 🔑!!! And, Mitchy needed 5 more games and almost 100 more shifts to get there.
    • I was honestly flabbergasted to see Rod send out Stanky and the boys to to matchup against their top line to start the game. The reason that line has been so effective is because they've been matched mostly against 2nd and 3rd lines all year. You've got last change. Use it to your advantage.
    • Nobody played well on defense last night. But, the vitriol towards Chatfield (and to a lesser extent, K'andre) is bigly misplaced. People (not just you) just refuse to accept how bad Slavin has been this season. And, I get it. Canes fans (and informed analysts) have spent nearly a decade trying to explain to casuals just how good Jaccccob is at hockey. 4Nations happened and the hockey watching public started to listen. National media even started floating the idea of creating a new award in his honor. Then this season, he gets hurt. It happens. NBD. But, when he finally came back, it wasn't the same. He'll get back to his old self in no time. Probably just some rust, it'll be fine. Only, it wasnt rust, and he's not fine. He's bad right now. It wasnt just last night. Although, that was absolutely the worst game of his NHL career. Slavin (-4) currently has the 3rd worst +/- of anyone left in the playoffs. We've  been begging the world to recognize Jaccob Slavin's greatness. And, by the time we finally got people to listen, he shits the bed! I blame Kash!
